Read Error (With FFX game)

I used the fix posted on here to get my PS2 to read discs, and it worked perfectly for DVD's, however, when I try to play FFX, it loads up ok, but when it tries to play a video at the beginning of the game, it doesnt manage to read it, any ideas?

Re: Read Error (With FFX game)

Hi Raven, Its sounds like you have a PS2 Slim with a melted Laser. What you will find is that the Slim will only read CD's, CDR's, PS1 Games, Blue back PS2 games and DVD's. I can repair this for $35 plus shipping to and from The Playstation Clinic in Fountain Inn, SC. The webpage is If you do not have a Slim, you either have dirty disc, or Lens. You may have left some fibers from the Q-tip across or around the lens.

Your system needs a mod chip to play games on a disc that was not created by Sony.
Most ps2 games are DVD's only some are cd's.. All of the ps1 games are cd's so if you burnt it onto a dvd its not going to work.

Playstation 2 won't play DVDs

if it's a fat PS2 and
model SCPH 30001, SCPH 35001
(not including the models with an 'R' after the model #.

these models need the following to play DVDs:
- PS2 DVD remote with IR unit
- PS2 DVD disc player (sold with DVD remote w/ IR unit)
- PS2 memory card

you copied the DVD disc to the memory card. you used the memory card to play DVDs.

later models didn't need the memory card to play DVDs.

hope this helps :D

Playstation2 DVD read error ''The disc could not be read''

I've encountered similar problem with my PS2. I really can't play the disc that I bought. There might be some burning problem that difficult to read by your PS2. What I did I've tried to copy it and burn in to a better DVD disc and it works. Try it.

Wont read discs

Downloadable games are not playable on PS2. If you're trying to play pirated games that you've downloaded from the Internet you're going to need to have your PS2 hardware modded to play DVD-Rs, which is expensive, dangerous, and illegal.

Unable to read new games but can read old, used games???

Things like this are usually caused by overlooked manufacturing discrepancies. It may be best to contact Sony with your system's model info, serial number, and date of manufacture. They may be able to help you under warranty. Greg Holiday
