This is strange. Is the camera putting the Raw (CR2) files in a different directory somewhere?

Try reading the disk in a reader rather than plugging the camera into the computer, and explore the disk.

If it's really not recording RAWs then I'd call Canon... They're usually very good indeed with photography.

Why am I no longer able to set my 60D camera to take RAW formatted pcitures

Hi,
In order to select RAW mode, first check if your camera is in either Manual(M)/(A)/(AV)/(Ev) modes. Then go to setting-picture format-RAW/RAW+Basic.
In order to edit the RAW picture, you need to update the RAW version if you are using Adobe Photoshop for editing your pictures.

Thank you!

What does raw+fine pictures mean?

The raw+fine setting indicates that your camera will take both raw (NEF) and high resolution JPEG pictures with every shot. You can change this to shoot just JPEG or just raw shots using your menu under the little camera icon. Click on image quality and it will give you multiple settings so you can choose only raw or only JPEG. You have three JPEG settings: fine, normal or basic.

I always shoot raw+fine which I think may be the default setting. I use the jpeg pictures for simple and quick editing and I use raw for detailed editing. JPEG pictures deteriorate quickly during editing while raw pictures can handle extensive editing without significant deterioration.

When you shoot raw+fine, it means the camera is actually storing two pictures of the same shot, one in each of the two formats. When you view the pictures in Windows, you can tell the difference between the raw shots and the jpeg shots because the raw shots have a broad black bar across the top and bottom of the picture while the jpeg shots fill the screen.

How do i save raw pictures from my camera to a disk. When I transfer them to my computer I can only open them with my cameras software. I don't know how to get them into another program so I can burn them....

You can't burn raw pictures. They are only data from a camera....not an actual picture. They must be processed in an editing program and then converted to another format such as jpeg or tiff.

A list and defintion of the file types raw b, raw, fine, norm and basic

The D3000 can store still images in two different formats. JPEG is a standard format, recognized by just about every image viewer and image manipulation program in the world. RAW is actually NEF (Nikon Electronic Format), a Nikon-proprietary format which incorporates almost all of the data captured by the sensor, without the processing of JPEG. JPEG files have the color balance, sharpening, contrast, and all the other camera settings done on the picture. With RAW files, you can change any or all of them and produce new JPEGs. In this respect the RAW file is similar to the original negative you get from processed film, while the JPEG file is like the final print. RAW files need special software for viewing and editing.

All JPEG files are compressed to save space. FINE, NORM, and BASIC represent different levels of compression. FINE does the least compression and takes up the most space, BASIC does the most compression and takes up the least space. Compression always loses some quality, so in general the less the compression the better the quality.

RAW+B simply stores each of your pictures as a RAW file and a BASIC JPEG file.

Having said all that, you should use only RAW or FINE settings. You didn't buy a SLR only to throw away picture quality, did you?

Canon g9 camera doesnt work in raw only jpeg

Go to the menu for the camera and look for "SAVE". you should have the choice in which format to save the pictures. Select "RAW" and then exit the menu. The camera should now save in RAW format. Some one or something probably switched the setting (such as reset camera).

Choosing to shoot Raw images

If you have Rebel XTi (400D), press Menu button.

Under the 1st Tab, the first option is "Quality" - select it. You should see 8 options from "fine L" to "Raw". Move selection using the arrow keys, and select RAW.

Setting the format of the picture i scan

Ok I am not sure why ya scanner won't save in JPEG .. however converting the files to JPEG is relitively "Simple". After saving the Scanned picture.. Open it up in say MS Paint, Painshop etc, then simply choose "Save As.." from the File Menu, and save it as a NEW image file this time with a JPEG extension. IE: origional... picture.png or picture.bmp ... save as ...picture.jpg .. ya should be good to go. :)

Features of each record mode...

The details for each record mode are as follows: RAW: RAW data is unprocessed image data in its original state to which white balance, sharpness, contrast, color conversion and other processes have not been applied. CAMEDIA Master can be used to display RAW data and save it in other image formats. A RAW plug-in is also available for Adobe Photoshop which also provides the ability to process images in 32-bit color depth. TIFF: This is the highest-quality mode. images are saved as uncompressed data, which is the best for printing or image processing on a computer. SHQ: This is a high quality mode using the JPEG format. Because the compression rate is very low, high quality images can be stored. HQ: This is a high quality mode using JPEG format, with medium compression. Because the compression rate is higher than SHQ, file sizes are smaller. More images can be saved to a card. The file size can be changed in the 3:2 or Enlarge size mode as well as SHQ. 3:2 Mode: Ordinarily the image aspect ratio is set to 4:3. Due to change the ratio to 3:2, the picture size becomes 2592 x 1728 so that the image can be printed without losing the image borders at a photo lab. 3:2 can be set in the TIFF, SHQ, or HQ mode. SQ1: SQ1 uses the highest compression for resolutions greater than 1600 x 1200. You can choose high compression to reduce noise or normal compression to save more images. SQ2: SQ2 uses the highest compression for resolutions less than 1600 x 1200. You can choose high compression to reduce noise or normal compression to save more images.
