It appears that your card reader is not functional. It could be that it is not installed properly - try installing again. If an installation CD came with it, try running it again. An installation CD will be needed with Windows 98 but probably not with later versions of Windows. Do you have a cable for connecting the camera to the computer? If so, you don't need the card reader. It is a bit risky taking the card out and putting it back in all the time because static electricity can destroy the delicate memory card, so using the cable is safer.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Memory card trouble

The camera should have come with a USB cable with which to connect the camera straight to the computer. Connect the camera (with the memory card inserted) to the computer and see if you can access the photos.

Memory card cannot read by digital camera.

Sounds like you will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Menu button - right arrow to Setup - go to format option- You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect message and the card can be used again.

Screen reading memory card not initialized

Hello

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
