My problem is that the printer is not recognising that the cartridge in tells me "no cartridge" and also "ink empty", i have put 2 brand new cartridges in and it still...

reset the waste ink counter, put black tape on critical ridge of all cartridges and refilled them. All showed full. All was well for 2 sheets, then all 4 cartridges are showing as near empty on LCD also on software monitor program. Whether or not they are near empty, how does the printer know with the light beam blocked? I have made filling holes on each cartridge (sealed with rubber plugs) so that I can refill without removing them. Doing this is not going to change the readout.
My expert TIP: Buy a new printer. Printers today are as just as expensive as a set of printer inks. Printers have heads and they get dirty over time and might need replacement, which is all the more expensive. Try buying ink advantage printers, they DO indeed save money. Or try looking for somebody who knows how to modify your printer to a CIS (Continuous Ink Supply) printer.

I want to use Black ink only but it will not print because the colors are empty. Do I need to replace all cartridges (LC61) for Brothers print, copy, fax machine. Thanks

If you don't want to replace the color cartridges, you can fool the printer instead. Sensors in the printer shine light through a thin area on the cartridges. The empty (or even just low, even though there may be plenty of ink still inside) cartridges allow the light to get through, the printer sees the empty cartridges, and it won't print anymore. You can cover this part of the cartridge with a piece of black electrical tape to block the light. Voila! No light gets through and the printer thinks you have full cartridges again. This site has pictures showing where to put the tape. I've used this trick on the printer we have here in our office and it works great.

Using the same cartridges for the HL-4070CDW, I refilled the black yellow cyan and magenta cartridges. when I put them all back into the printer, the RED toner life end comes on saying that cyan, magenta,...

There's a window on each end of the cartridges and light shines thru to show when they're empty, your refill toner may not be the right density. If you put a small piece of electrical tape over the windows on the cartridge, the error will go away, but you have to watch print quality to change or add toner.

Hi, my Brother DCP-115C Brother printer keeps telling me my black ink is empty despite putting brand new cartridges in, can you offer any help. Thanks.

Black electrical tape is the answer and it’s because the tape is BLACK. Even if u put black tape on an empty cartage the printer will still try to print.

The tape goes on the side of the cartage that faces the back of the printer (where the sensor must be).

Printer not printing black ink

This is a problem that is always happening with these printers, to fix it, this is what you do: if you look at the cartridge it has a grip tip at the top, for you to pull it out of the printer, after you fill the cartridge put the top back on. Before you put it back in the printer, as you can see, the label on the cartridge goes around the front middle of the cartridge, it give you the model number and so forth. now turn the cartridge around, place a stripe of tape around the top of the cartridge in the same manner as the label, so that the tape is facing the toward the back of the printer. Use tape that blocks the sensor, no clear tape. The reason it does that is because no matter how much you fill the cartridge or how new it is, with this model printer, those sensors go bad and thinks every thing is empty but it only happen on the black, go figure. Try this and when you close it, it will start a long process of cleaning and your ready to go.

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.

Black electrical tape works like a charm on a Brother MFC-465CN. Thanks for the tip! :-)

How do I reset the ink levels?

We have an issue of missing or replace yellow cartridge. Please feel free to contact the HP support for replacement of the printer, if the printer is in warranty status. HP would replace the printer.

MFC-240 shows no ink cartridge

Same problem here... Figured out something that works fine for me anyway.

I took some black electrical tape and covered the clear plastic area in the front of the cartridge. It's a bit of a delicate procedure. Need a piece of tape about 3/16 of an inch wide and 1/2 inch long to match the contour of the clear plastic so it still fits inside the printer and can be surrounded by the light sensors.

Unfortunately, I think Brother is making too much on the ink cartridges and therefore is trying to make them tamper proof. I t's backfiring on them. Will never buy another Brother.

Near empty yellow

Do print until the message EMPTY (Printer stopps printing). DO NOT refill or change cart when message is shown: NEAR EMPTY! You fool the printers logic. Machine counts down the rest of the ink in the cart. When you refill at that moment the counter is disoriented! To clear the counter: Unplug powercord. Take carts out. Wait 3 min. Plug in power. Machine demands carts. Do use carts at full level (refill before you put them in). Works normal afterwards.
