Re: lens cover

Try giving the camera a fewsoft but forceful whacks by the lens cover area. Hard enough to possibly unjam the cover but not so hard as to cause more damage. Best to use your middle finger and tap on it like you're typing really hard. Then try to cycle it open/closed a few times. If that doesn't work it's a mechanical problem which needs to be addressed by a repair shop.

You have two options, replace the motor that opens and closes the lens cover or remove the lens cover shutters all together, and use a 30mm lens cap.

Lens Cover not fully open

It sounds like a problem with the firmware in the camcorder itself. As an authorized Sony repair person, I have gotten no technical bulletin on this model. The firmware is preloaded into the microprocessor IC. You will need to have this unit looked at by an authorized Sony repair center who specializes in camcorder repairs or send the unit to a Sony factory service center. good Luck

Lens Cover

The micro motor broke in the dust cover that opens and closes the cover. If your camcorder is still operational then I would not worry too much. Only when you can not get pass the error messages to operate then you will need to get a new one from sony (~$50). If you are mecahnically sound to take apart small things otherwise, take it to a professional.
