Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

How to Speed up a Windows XP Computer

  • Spyware and viruses are leading causes of computer slowdown. Read Rid-Your-Computer-of-Adware,-Spyware-and-Viruses to learn how to remove them and speed up your system.
  • Update and run your spyware and virus software every week.
  • If you do not have tools installed to protect against malware, spyware, and viruses, download free copy of avg (free for personal use). Also, Microsoft's Windows Defender is a widely-used anti-spyware tool that is currently distributed freely for users with a "Genuine" copy of Windows. "Windows Defender" is also included with other Microsoft services and products such as Live OneCare and Vista.
  • Download and install Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. It will allow you to import all of your Internet Explorer settings, and is much less prone to malware than Microsoft Internet Explorer. It will prompt you with a "Set as Default Browser" message. Check "Don't show this again" and click "Yes". Firefox also has a cool feature to delete cookies, cache, and temporary internet files each time you close it. You are strongly recommended to use this option. It can speed up your internet experience. You should also check Google Chrome which is faster and less prone to virus attacks from internet Chrome
  • If you have a really complicated virus infection, try using the Quick Virus Remover. It is a free utility, though not a replacement for commercial products but can be helpful for removing some of the most common viruses infecting your system.
2Defragment Your Computer - This will place similar files physically closer on the hard disk and will help improve load speeds.
  • Click start, again, then click run.
  • Type, "dfrg.msc" in the text field.
  • Click Defrag to start it.

Perform a disk clean up.
  • Click start in the bottom left corner, then click run.
  • Type, "cleanmgr.exe" in the text field.
  • Press "okay". This can take a while if you have never done it before.

Remove unwanted software.(They are often the reason for slowdown)
  • Click start, then click control panel.
  • Click add/remove programs.
  • Highlight any old software you do not use and then click "remove".
5Stop unwanted Start-Up programs.
  • Run msconfig
  • Choose startup box
  • Select uncheck programs you don't want to run on startup
  • OR
  • Click here and download StartUpCPL.
  • Install the software you have just downloaded.
  • Open control panel, select Start up.
  • Disable any programs you do not want load automatically.

  • Programs can also schedule tasks to launch automatically when windows starts to stop such programs use windows task scheduler. To open Scheduled Tasks, click Start, click All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Scheduled Tasks.
  • Disable All Services you do not use or need. Open control panel, open Administrative Tools, and select Services. Disabling the wrong Services may lead to serious problems that you may not notice right away. Please consult a reference such as overclockersclub.comfor information on specific Windows XP Services. If you do not know what it is, do not disable the service

  1. Make Windows Load Faster
    • Click Start, then Run.
    • Type in 'msconfig' and press enter.
    • Click on the BOOT.INI tab at the top.
    • Over to the right there will be a box labeled Timeout with 30 in it. Change the 30 to a 3.
  2. 7Speed Up Processing Time
    • Turning off the fancy Windows XP graphics will noticeably increase the speed of your computer.
    • Go to Start, (Settings), Control Panel, System. NOTE: You may need to 'Switch to Classic Mode' to see the System applet.
    • Go to the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button under Performance.
    • Select the 'Adjust for best performance' radio button, then Apply, and OK.
    • The graphics aren't as flashy, but your computer will run a lot faster.
  3. 8Set Pagefile size
    • Go to Start, (Settings), Control Panel, System. (This is just like the step above this.)
    • Go to the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button under Performance.
    • Now switch to this Advanced tab, and click on 'Change' under Virtual Memory.
    • You will see the 'Initial Size (MB)' and the Maximum Size (MB)'.
    • Change 'Initial Size' to the same value as 'Maximum Size' then click set.
      • NOTE This setting will help your gaming process by speeding up your computer.
      • ADDED NOTE: When your computer consumes your computer's hard drive and uses it as RAM, it is referred to as thrashing. Thrashing is bad for your computer and buying a RAM (it's not that expensive) is much more worthwhile.
  4. 9Set Priorities
  5. 10Press Control (ctrl) Alt Delete (del) at the same time. Once task manager opens, click the process's tab. Now find explorer.exe, right click it, and set the priority to realtime. This makes your computer focus on explorer.exe, which is your task bar and visual objects. Use this method if you want to keep your visual styles (or your using a transformation pack). This method greatly increases speed and if you are noticing that other programs that you use a lot are slow, you can set their priority to either high or above normal, if you have 2 process's on high at the same time, your computer will be unstable, and might crash.

-**For users without Admin password**-12You will not be able to modify, I believe, the value to realtime, if you aren't on an admin account, or you have insufficient privileges, then the best you can do, is set explorer.exe to high. (Edited by SFA)

Windows security center can't be started and when i turn it on in the security center to automatic, it's solved but after a minute, it seems disabled agai. please help me! are this sort kind of viruses?

Windows security center monitors checks if you have a firewall and anti-virus solution and also checks if automatic updates are on. Below is a screen capture of what it should look like, if it is titled different or looks quite different except for options being off instead of on you have a bug.

I have removed plenty of bugs from computers with users who use lots of Facebook apps.

If your anti-virus software does not find anything try these steps.

Run system restore and pick a restore point before problem started.
If system not working (which is likely if you've got a bug) you will need to restart in "Safe mode" to do that keep hitting F8 when computer restarts

Once restored run windows update, update antivirus definitions (if you don't have one microsoft have a free one "microsoft security essentials") and then run the windows Malicious removal tool. To this go to start menu select run and enter "mrt" and hit enter do a full scan.

If security center still not working go to control panel - Administrative Tools > open services. Find the security center service double click to bring up properties check service status; If not "Started" then change startup type to manual then press start button and then exit out.

I erased my hard drive because of a virus problem. I installed windowsXP with a CD I bought from Compusa. It installed OK but the resolution is not adjustable and it is set at 640X480. At this value...

1. Navigate to the Control Panel in Microsoft Windows by left-clicking on Start, followed by Settings and then choosing Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel window, open Display.

Note: In Microsoft Windows XP, depending on how your operating system is setup, you may not see the Display icon. To correct this, click on the link on the left-hand side of the Control Panel window that says Switch to Classic View.

3. In the Display Properties window, click on the Settings tab.

4. Locate the Screen resolution slider on the left-hand side of the window. Under most circumstances, the best choice is 800 by 600 pixels or 1024 by 768 pixels, possibly higher if you're using a 19" or larger monitor. The "best" setting is highly subjective to your personal preferences.

Note: Some types of software require the screen resolution settings to be set at a specific size. If you receive errors when opening certain software titles be sure to make any changes here as necessary.

Dell Latiture D600 Touchpad not working!

Have you downloaded and installed the latest glide pad drivers from Dell?

Upon starting your laptop I would enter the bios setup screens and navigate the startup screens using Alt+P to find the pointer settings and set your or check that yours is using Glide Pad only, If you so choose to use an external USB travel mouse, this setting must be changed to Serial only.

Once, you download and install the latest drivers for the Glide Pad, and by the way, the Glide Pad on the D600 series is its only weak link in an otherwise best in class laptop.

To access the sensitivity settings for your Glide Pad after installing the new driver or in your case this may be reinstalling (I have to do this way to often) open Mouse within Control Panel and the last Tab is your Glide Pad. Here you can change a lot of the property values for things like sensitivity and double tap scrolling etc. Your mention of the mouse traveling up and to the right in most case is normal for this laptop.

Here is the link for the Glide Pad driver update. If this link has expired, here is the permanent location. Just click on the download button on this page. Download and move to a unique folder as the file name won't be of help. Move to something like c:\software\Dell\Glide Pad\

Worldvet

Cannot open my D drive by double clicking but it shows the option open with note pad help

You drive has been infected by a virus. but I think you can still open it by not double click rather to right click on the D drive and choose explore from the menu.
But this not the solution save the files somewhere and work out on removing the virus.

Windows xp service pack 2

Hi 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER. 2. Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom 3. To disable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 0 (zero). To enable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 1. 4. Restart your computer. NOTE: This method disables automatically running CD-ROMs. If you want to disable automatically running CD-ROMs depending on the CD-ROM that you insert in the CD-ROM drive, you can press and hold down one of the SHIFT key while you insert the CD-ROM. This may help. Good Luck
