Question about DFI LANPARTY UT ICFX3200 T2R/G Motherboard

1 Answer

Memory I have had problems when trying to install OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 memory on my motherboard. This memory comes as two 1GB 800MHz modules, which seem to be within the motherboard specifications. I have checked the memory on a friends computer and it seems to work fine there. The computer is using windows vista which seems to be preventing me from using a Bios flash.

The manual for your motherboard states:

For dual-channel memory configuration (2), you may:

• install identical DIMMs in all four sockets OR

• install an identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1 (yellow

sockets) and another identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A2 and

DIMM_B2 (black sockets)

* Always use identical DDR2 DIMM pairs for dual-channel model. For

optimum compatibility, we recommend that you obtain memory modules
from the same vendor.

I have a 512 DDR2 (533 FSB) RAM in one of my slot in Intel D102GGC2 Mother board,can i put a 2 GB DDR2 ram in another slot.If yes then What FSB will match and what is the maximum capacity of ram per slot?

This motherboard will support maximum 2 GB of total system memory. so configuration is should be 1GB + 1GB or one 2GB in one slot. If you attempt to install 2GB + 512MB, this is unsupported. but you can try if might the system can read it or not. there is no serious problem for installing memory exceed than maximum system memory...
Memory supported is DDR2 533 Mhz and DDR2 400 MHz...(sometimes on the market DDR2 533 will described as module name PC2-4200 and DDR2 400 as PC2 3200)

Can I use Kingston 1GB PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2

I would assume that specific module would work, although it is not found on the QVL list from ECS for 1GB.. Most Kingston memory is pretty good with compatibility... However, in some cases, some motherboards will have trouble with the type of RAM you put into it. I would try to follow the spec from ECS listed HERE.

In the worst case, most retail stores will allow you to return the module and exchange it for another one if it does not work in your system.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for using FixYa!

Intel D102GGC2 Motherboard Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*
Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
* Currently Installed Memory: 512mb Number of Banks: 2
* Dual Channel Support: Yes
* CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
* Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.
Your MotherBoard Supports up to 2GB of memory.

You have 512mb, you can add 512mb to the empty slot.
, however,It's a good idea to keep them the same if you can.
You can install memory that is: DDR2 PC2-5300 (PC2-5300 is 667Mhz) you can use 1gb memory in each module for best performance and matching pairs since your motherborad supports dual can use sound card and SATA hard disk for higher disk support

Upgrading Ram

Make sure you have the RAM seated in slot #1, and that you do not have DDR RAM installed as well, as DDR2 with DDR RAM will not work. Also, make sure the RAM you bought is on the QVL (Qualified Vendors List) for that motherboard. I know I have had problems with ASUS motherboards and OCZ ram before.

I had the same issue on this board where it came with a Samsung 512 MB 533 MHz PC2-4200 DDR2 DIMM. I put in a 1 GB Kingston with the same specs (533 MHz PC2-4200 DDR2) and it would not recongize the Samsung anymore with the system reading as 1 GB of RAM instead of 1.5 GB. Tried every configuration and would only see the Kingston. It would only see the Samsung if I pulled out the Kingston regarless of the slots I use. So, I just bought the exact same make/model of Kingston and it recognized that fine and the system now has 2 GB of memory (max this board allows). And, I had already installed the latest BIOS for this board from Intel before doing all this so wasn't an old BIOS. I'm figuring the board didn't like something about the Samsung memory (speed, module configuration, etc.) that made it not play nice with the Kingston. If interested I bought the DM8400A/1G Kingston modules. And, this board appears not to support dual channel memory. Only has channel A, slots 0 and 1, and I read need two channels to support dual channel (seems obvious). Boards that supports dual channel memory normally have 4 memory slots, two for channel A and two for channel B, then put in matching modules in slot 0 for channel A and B and have dual channel memory access. And if want more ram, then matching modules in slot 1 for channel A and B.
