Indicators not self cancelling & Horn not working

I Have a Renault Scenic 1.6 RT 1999 After having a new clutch fitted I noticed that the indicators would not self cancell and the horn has stopped working.I have removed the horn and tested it on a battery and it works fine, all fuses are ok and all conections have been checked and seem ok.
Is there a switch between the horn and ignition as shown in my Haynes manual (is it like a relay) and what could be the problem with the indicators not self cancelling, are both problems some how connected as they both appeared at the same time.
I have noticed on another site someone has an identical problem (both faults at the same time) but no ideas on resolving them, any help would be great, thanks Steve

I cant find any relay so I decided to check the horn pressure switch, I followed the red & black wires from the pressure switch on the stearing wheel (after removing air bag, batt off & 20 min wait)

these wires lead back to just under the indicator stalk, I removed the connectors and put bat back on turned ign on then using a short bit of wire touched the two turminals togeather anh hey pristo the horn worked.

so I removed the stearing wheel (bat off first) and removed the rotating disc under it, this was the problem, the two contacts on one part of the disc were not making a good contact so I bent them slightly to increse the pressure, reasembled it upto the stearing wheel going back on (reconected bat, ign on) and tested the pressure switches (3 of then) all worked

horn worked ok, (disconected bat wait 20 min before putting airbag back on) reasembled everything and it is now ok.

The problem with the indicators not self cancelling has also been fixed dont know how

thank Jim for the advice on the relay it mus be there just cant find it

I had the same problem. Horn not working and indicators not self cancelling.
After removing the steering wheel I found that the central two pronged collet, that engages with the steering wheel and drives the horn contact slipring and indicator cancellation, had worn down its prongs. this had caused the horn wires to stop rotating and they had been snapped by the motion of the steering wheel.
the ideal solution would be to replace the collet and horn wires but I managed to repair both

Yes there should be a relay under the bonnet somewhere as for the indicators they usually cancel from the steering wheel but it could somehow be connected to the relay hope this helps regards Jim

I have a renault clio 2003 plate , my indicators are playing up , the left incator is permently and wont indicator right nor will it cancel left indicator, right indicator only work when hazard is on

I would check that you have the correct bulbs fitted in the indicators, especially the rear ones as it is common for people to fit the wrong bulbs, which could be single contact single filament, or double contact single filament, or double contact double filament. There are quite a lot of bulbs that will fit in the same size holder but might not be right for the car. Other than that you will have to look for wires that are shorting out, also probably in the boot. Unfortunately when you purchase a Renault car, wiring problems are built in, apart from bits of plastic you will undoubtedly find on the floor and never find where they came from.

Right indicator flashes quick changed back bulb same problem

If bulb is OK;

1. Bulb has a lower wattage than the original. This decreases the load on the blinker module and makes it blink faster.
2. Blinker circuit is burned out or the connection is dirty; look in the fittings for corrosion.
3. Bad earthing can cause this problem.

Good luck!

Grand scenic indicators not self cancelling

Your turn signal switch is most probably faulty. You will need to replace it. Please, check the videos below. The first video shows a similar problem on a Renault Clio. The second one shows the operations to replace the turn signal switch. I think that the operations are quite similar in most modern cars. Good luck!

2000 Renault Scenic 1.4. The indicators left & right work correctly however when I apply the footbrake all 4 indicators come on as well as the stop lights. What is causing this problem.

Check the bulbs in the back lights as i suspect you have a wrong bulb fitted ,remove each bulb in each cluster in turn and look in the bulb holder as i think that you may have a single pole bulb in a double pole bulb holder ,if this checks out ok then check the earth on each rear light cluster as a non earth connection could also cause this problem, but i suspect a incorrect bulb in the wrong holder

Fitting instructions for the towbar electics on a Renault Trafic 2006

Behind the left reversing light is a grommet that you can put the towbar wire through, and just behind this is a large black connector, this has all the wires for the towbar, unfortunately there are several wires of the same colour that do different things, best use a test lamp on each one as you connect them. The indicators are "self monitoring" so you do not need a buzzer or light on the dash to tell you that the trailer is working, when you indicate with the trailer connected the ticking sound of the indicators changes to a pinging sound.
