    • i think i have the same problem. got home from work on thursday, turned on the tv. it was making sound like a bug zapper and every time it made that sound the screen would flicker. turned tv off for about 5 mins and the turned back on. after about 2 mins screen went out but audio stayed on. maybe about 5 seconds then went to standby. standby light blinks 8 times.

    • I have the same problem with my Sony
KP-46WT510. When I turn on the TV I get
audio (without a picture) for a few seconds and then the TV resets and then the
      Standby/Timer light blinks 8 times. I
went ahead and ordered the High Voltage Block part# 8-598-955-32 per
TVtechmaniac's post, but wanted to know if anyone could provide some
installation instructions beyond what is provided in the service manual. This is my first time trying to fix a
      TV.

      Another thing I purchased the
service manual and it stated that when the Standby/Timer light blinks 8 times
it is an indication that the T8005 (Transformer) is faulty. How do I know if I need a Voltage Block or a
      Transformer?

    • I am pretty sure I have the same problem. Looks like getting the part is easy. How easy is it to install?

Can you tell from looking at the HVB that its bad?

The High Voltage Block - part# 8-598-955-32 was an easy fix. It will take you about 30 minutes. You'll need a phillips screwdriver and possibly a small pair of pliers to remove a connecter (at least I did). While I did not take pics or write down step by step, here are some general instructions. Make sure that the tv is unplugged. Unscrew the panel. The screws are all the same size so don't worry about matching holes. Disconnect the wires to where they are connect. The thicker red ones that enter the HVB themselves are done in a "twist and pull" method. You will need to use this same method when hooking up the new one. There is also a small black cylinder piece of plastic around one of the wires. Make sure that you remove it from the old HVB and place it on the new one. You should be done with the grunt work. Place the cover back on. Check out this site on how to clear the diagnostic codes or else the light may keep blinking... http://www.iwaynet.net/~nesda/SonyBlink.html

Not always the HV block...more often one of the CRT's are
shorted = can be proven be hooking up one at a time, one HV
lead and matching CRT socket module.................T.

    • PS Also, HV lead can be un-plugged for test................T.

    • Right on TVtechmaniac ! Just fixed a Sony today = 8 blinks =

      HV block.....................................T.

8 blinks means that the High Voltage Block is shorted - part# 8-598-955-32 (about $80)

I have removed the HVB and am about to order another but should it have any burn marks mine looks like nothing is wrong with it
