Hunter 28484 Fan won't start up

By dawoodman on Apr 11, 2009

I replaced an old fan with a new Hunter model 28484 model with no light (the old fan did not have a light either). There are only two wires in the ceiling (aside from the ground) - a red and a black. I connected the red to the white from the fan and the black to the black on the fan. I installed a new sliding on/off switch replacing the old flip on/off switch that was used for the old fan. Once again, there was only a red and a black wire coming from the wall. This new fan was purchased from an EXPO that was closing and was a floor model (although it did work at the store) but did not come with any manual or remote control (they had it directly hardwired). Does it require the remote or can I not just use a wall fixture to turn it off/on?
