Question about Yamaha RX-V457 Receiver

2 Answers

No picture I have a ViewSonic N4280P TV, just got it...connected it to my Yamaha RXV-457, getting sound and picture but it is in black and white. When I connect the satelight receiver directly to the TV I get sound and a colour picture, using standard RCA type conections but I have to plug the video calbe into the component connection to make it all work. What could be the problem? When I change the video connection on the receiver from my satelight receiver to s video or optical, I get the same problem.

Re: no picture

It sounds like your connecting everything including the video switching through the receiver? If you are, you have to make sure that the video is compatible with your color system which is the PAL system. It may be set to the NTSC system. You may need to do a reset or follow the instructions in the manual on how to set up the inputs to automatically detect the type of input signal. If you do not have an owners manual, I have one you can have. if you want it, please leave an e-mail address and I will send you a copy. It tells you on page 58 or 59 how to set up the inputs for automatic selection of the input signals. Good Luck

Re: no picture

Interesting.have you tried playing a dvd thru a connected dvd player thru the 457. I would be curious to know if a different video source causes the same black and white pattern. try that and let me know.

Yamaha home theatre system RXV 350 amplifier

Check it without speaker connection. If the set does not go to protection mode, check all the speakers by connecting one by one at a time and switch the set ON; to find the faulty speaker. If the set goes to protection mode even no speaker connected, check and replace damaged components at its audio output section circuit. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Just bought a used yamaha receiver model RXv793 do not know how to hook it up.

First do not panic by seeing all sockets in the back side of the receiver. You can connect 5 speakers and one subwoofer on the speaker A switch and maybe a second pair of stereo speakers on the B switch. All the speaker sockets have red and black terminals, so do all speakers. Just get decent cables ( You can buy a whole connection Kit if you want ) and connect the corresponding outlets to you speakers. If you have a powered subwoofer connect the subwoofer input to a socket labeled Subwoofer pre out on the RXV. You will need a RCA to RCA cable for that Next you will need a coaxial or Optic fiber cable to connect a DVD player digitally. The back of the DVD player will have a socket marked coaxial out, and so does the RXV's backside. Just link them .
Turn on the system everything should work. If you are not getting DVD sound there is small button on the RXV front panel called Digital input -- set it to auto ( keep pressing the button and it will scroll through various modes). Also remember to switch on speaker A on the front panel.

I have a Yamaha RXV-365 AV receiver. When I connect my Bluray dvd I only get the picture and no sound, I have an optical cable fitted into the back of the tv and placed it in theback of the reciever but...

You must connect from the Bluray both HDMI and SPDIF to the receiver, and turn TV volume down. TV does not send the sound
from HDMI inputs out digitally, only sound from TV channels.

Yamaha reciever rx-v363

Thats because if you look in the owner's manual, it declares the fact that it will only broadcast sound from hdmi to monitor not speakers. For sound out of speakers need to connect additional audio cable.
