Bad Color Wheel

The color wheel in my X1a is gone bad, I believe. The high pitch screeching noise I hear when I turn it on is due to the color wheel is what I have read on similar blogs. If I could purchase a matching product so I can replace it myself that would be great. Thanks dynoh

There is a high pitched whine when the projector is running. I believe its the bearings going out in the color wheel. The picture is fine, could it be something else?

Hello there:
I think that you are right on track but what normally happens is that the bearing gets dust and small fibres in the bearing and after time this noise that you are hearing is what happnes
So what you can do is to open up the projector and where the fan is get all of the dirt / dust or and thing else that may be in their by using canned air or a cloth andpick oput anything that you can get to than use some spray lubricant and spray a small amount in the bearing and then reassemble it and turn it on and i think you will see a huge difference ok
Hope this is very helpful for you
Best regards MIchael

I have 2300mp i had a loud sound and it sound like the fan was making a sound i took the buld out it look good but i bought one ant way, when i took the bulb out i was get small pieces of color thin glass...

This is undoubtedly a broke color wheel. The wheel is made up of four small slices of colored glass, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Clear. Each slice is fixed into a groove on a brass hub. The high-pitched "whirring" noise that you hear on start up is the wheel spooling up at high speed. If one of the "slices" comes loose from the hub it can break, bind or start scraping. Regardless, there is a sensor that reads the speed of the wheel and won't allow the unit to come fully on if the wheel doesn't come up to speed (which it no longer can). Bottom line...Game Over. It's simply too expensive to fix. I personally am hoping for a class action suit on this obvious piece of junk retailed by Dell. But think of all the extra money they are making from people rushing out and spending up to $300 for a bulb that won't solve the problem. Ahhh...gotta love free enterprise!

InFocus SP5000 - high pitch noise

there isn't a colorwheel in the sp5000. it's an lcd, not a dlp. one of the fans is bad and needs to be replaced. the bearings might be going. you can get parts from an infocus service center or send it to them for repair. try av solutions in ny. they're really good.

X1A DLP No picture no buttons work only get white light

possibly the colorwheel. remove the lamp and see if the colorwheel is still there (colored glass through the hole). if it is, replace the lamp and turn the projector on. if you hear a high pitched whir, the colorwheel motor is ok. if not, it's one of 2 things: the main board has come loose from the dmd chip board, or the main board (eca controller) is bad. if the board is bad, you'll need to replace it, but it's over $500.

When I turn it on I get a buzzing whine, picture is fine, and now noise has a rattle to it. Would this be the color wheel or maybe the cooling fan?

could be either. remove the lamp. you'll see on the lamp door a plastic protrusion. this is to press the door switch. find that switch and hold it in with a screwdriver. now turn the projector on and look inside the lamp housing in the direction that the lamp would be pointing. do you see the colorwheel spin? it should spin with a high-pitched whir. if you hear the bad noise when it starts up, replace the colorwheel. otherwise, locate the bad fan and replace it.

Horrible noise

it is the color wheel i have a similar problem and am looking for the part, the color wheel is a small electric motor that spins at a high speed and it can go bad. which will lead to the horrible squeel/hum/buzz.
