Samsung htz310 home cinema system, speaker cable problem

The wire to the back speakers has been broken midway.
Is there a fix or do I just have to purchase a new cable?
One end of the of the cable has a 2 point pin that goes into the dvd player, the other end has the 2 strands that fit into the back speaker.

I have thought about buying an extra cable, splicing it and connecting it to the broken area but do not want to lose sound quality.

any advice would be appreciated

If it's just the speaker cable, it's an easy fix. There are two strands of wire for each cable. I would cut the cable at the break, seperate the strands carefully about two inches in each direction, either by pulling them apart, or by using a knife, being careful to preserve the insulation around each strand (sometimes pulling apart the strands will pull the insulation from one side or the other depending on how fragile it is - I usually just start the seperation with a knife, and then pull them apart slowly). Then you can strip back the insulation about an inch on either side of the break on each strand.

To strip back the insulation, take a sharp knife and cut through the insulation by cutting around the wire on each strand about an inch back in both directions being careful to not cut through the wire. A few of the strands won't make a big difference, but if you cut too much it may be best to start over.

Once you have about an inch of wire exposed on each strand, you can intertwine the wires to put them back together. Just hold the bare ends of each seperated strand side-by-side and twist them together. If you mix up which strands are which, mark one of the sides with tape or a sharpie to make sure you twist the right ends together. Usually there is a white stripe on the positive strand, or some other marking that runs the length on one side only, so that's a good guide for putting the right wires back together.

Once that is done, you need to isolate the bare wires from each other. I usually bend them parrallel to the cable in opposite directions, and then use electrical tape run between them and around each strand. Once they are isolated and not in danger of touching, use some heatshrink tubing around the whole patch to make it lasting and durable. It won't look pretty, but it will work just fine. You can find heatshring tubing at Radio Shack. Just slide a big enough piece to cover the repaired area on from the end of the cable without the connector, and then use a hairdryer to shrink the tubing around the patch. If you don't have a hairdryer, you can use a match or candle. Just be careful.

Alternatively, you can just wrap more electrical tape around the whole area in a diagonal, but tape isn't nearly as durable a patch as heatshrink.

Hope that helps.

My samsung home cinema htz310 does not start it indicates PROTECT When power is switched off and disconected from ac for one day ,it will turn on and play normally Help please

There are a couple of possibilities for this problem. First that it is overheating. Check that it is well ventilated and not too enclosed. Don't leave papers on top of the device for example. Secondly you could have got a wringing problem, perhaps on the speakers. Shorts, bad connection or wrong type speakers even. Lastly a fault of some kind.

Dead Samsung HTZ310

You can get your unit repaired. (cheapest option) You can hook up the speakers to another unit as long as it will work with the same impedance speakers. Don't hook them up to a receiver that is rated for 8 ohms. Your speakers are 3 ohm. The sub is a passive one, so the replacement receiver will have to work with a passive woofer.

I cant get my samsung home cinema system to play through my t.v

I bought the optical audio cable ($15 WalMart) and use the Digital In on the DVD player to play the sound through the surround system and turned the TV speakers off. Works great! The optial audio has square ends and looks transparent with just one round shaped cable that goes from the TV to the back of the DVD player.

Wireless speakers

Google "Samsung SWA-4000" The HTz310 is wireless "ready" only. You'll need to purchase this unit for about $100 to make your (Rears only) wireless.

SAMSUNG HT-TZ212 home cinema kit comes up with protect

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

My Samsung htz310 home cinema kit keeps coming up 'Protect' and then turns off when i play CDS (both copied and normal), any ideas? cheers

just kinda fixed one of these, well more of a bodge but it works !!
the protect error is to do with the main AMP board (the board the speakers connects too)
to FIX it, on the ribbon cut pins 4 and 5 which disables the checking ! It may due long term damage and break summit else, but hey its broke anyhows !!! even if its just to get the system running again to get settings off it !!!
