Question about Legacy Audio Blue Diamond LA580 Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

No Power My amp appears to have no power as the Green LED and the Blue light on the top of the amp do not come on and the subs don't work. The red LED is not on either. I have 14.05 volts DC input and 12.71 volts DC to the remote terminal. The fuse on the unit is good.

Thanks for the quick response. The amp was still under warrenty, but my son did not have the receipt. I was a little hesitant to open it up, but your response gave me the second opinion I needed. Right away found that the circuit board was messed up. I sodered a jumper in, but it still didn't work. Looked a lot closer and found another small flaw in the circuit board that kept power from getting to an IC chip. Sodered that and the amp powered up. Also found an open in one of the wires coming from the radio. Working great now. I'm glad the problem was more obvious than you thought cause I wasn't having any luck finding a schematic. Thanks again for your advice. Take care.

Hello jasper100, Have you opened the unit to take a look inside? Since you dont have a blown fuse we cans assue the a short has not occured. Now I would chect to see if the voltage regulator in the amp has voltage coming from it. It may not in that case you may have to remover the old regulator and put in a new one just to get to the point of properly troubleshooting this amp. I would suggest that you get a schematic for this unit and use a multimeter to look at the voltages in the power supply section and see which sections have no rail voltage (12v supply voltage). I would also advise checking the remote to for regulator failure.

If it's all colors (Red, Blue, Green) doing the same thing at the same time, there are (unfortunately) multiple possibilities:

1) the AC to DC power supplies
2) the LED Driver Board
3) DLP driver, or DLP itself

The most likely problem is the DC-DC power supplies, which are known to have capacitors that go bad after several years of operation.

Due to this, there are many sources for either re-capacitor kits (DIY), or rebuilt power supplies with upgraded capacitors.

WARNING - Dangerous, and even lethal voltages are present inside your TV set. Do not attempt this unless you are trained in these kinds of repairs. Leave the TV unplugged for several hours (or preferably a full day) before attempting such.

DIAGNOSIS for bad capacitors: If you inspect the large capacitors on the power supply boards, and they are not totally FLAT across the top surface (if bulged at all), then you need a new power supply or new cap's. Likewise, if there is any leakage from the capacitors (usually a light-yellowish crusty appearing substance), they are BAD.

Main power supply:
BP44-01001A SMPS-DLP TV PN082DPS-VF(A),AC/DC,90V-132

A quick Google search for these part number (BP96-01726B & BP44-01001A) will reveal many sources, and pictures to verify it's what your set has.

I have a power acoustik bamf 1600/4. not working 5 hours later

use a multimeter to see if the amp has good power wire and remote turn on voltage. then check the ground and make sure its a good strong ground. check the sub to make sure its not bad. make sure it reads whatever ohm its supposed to. anything less than 4 ohms will clip the amp if bridged. if alll that is good then the only thing left is the amp. it sounds like the power supply is bad but check everything else just to make sure. good luck.

Kicker 250.2 amp, I have green power led, but the red led on top of the unit does not come on, nor does the red protection led, hear a click out of the subs on occation but nothing else, looked inside and...

Sometimes clicking, or popping sounds from subs are caused by over excursion of the subwoofer, wich can be caused by ultra low frequency, or going below the tuned frequency of your enclosure.

RED Port light on AMP?

are you sure its not PROT?
the amplifier is protecting itself from fire because of something.
Disconnect the subs. and turn on.
if it comes on normally, the subs are at fault and will need attention. If the light still stays on, you hafe probably blown an output on the amplifier and it will need repair.

Amp has Red LED light on.

Disconnect all speaker wires and signal cables from the amp. If it powers up, the wiring needs to be checked. If it still shuts down, the amp likely has blown output transistors.

Power light

This could be a DC offset condition. Check you manual for what this means. Or other condition. First Disconnect the Subs and try it. If it still goes red then disconnect the RCA's and try it again. If the Led continues to go red after the click then the Amp is hosed. The Click you hear is an internal relay that cuts the subs in after a dely so you do not get the turn on THUMP of the radio at your subs.
