The plastic ties were left on the oven rack. One melted . How do I get the plastic off the bottom of a self cleaning oven?

Warm Method Both Good Housekeeping and the website Hunker describe this method for self-cleaning ovens. Hunker warns to NOT use the "cold method" which is reserved for other types of ovens. And the Good Housekeeping site says if the method proves unsatisfactory, that the floor or bottom plate of the oven might have to be replaced.

(That said, I suspect if you pull out oven racks and apply some ice to any plastic on it, the plastic might become brittle enough that tapping it with a spoon and prying at it with something wooden or finger nails might remove a lot of it. No scraping with the spoon!)

Here is the primary process for the oven.

Self-cleaning ovens require heat to remove the melted plastic. This method also works on heating elements with plastic on them. Step 1 Turn the oven on to the lowest heat setting. Only leave the oven on long enough to make the plastic soft and pliable.
Step 2 Scrape the melted plastic with a wooden utensil such as a spatula or spoon. The wood protects the surface inside the self-cleaning oven. When you get all off that you can, the self cleaning feature may burn off the rest. That WILL be smokey and exude an unpleasant smell while it does it. Open windows and keep pets out of the area (and yourself) while it goes through the clean cycle. Do NOT use a screw driver to try and remove the plastic.

Hole in plastic outer drum

I have plastic welded my son's hockey skate with an automotive bumper cover welder and surprisingly it has held up-its basicly like a soldiering iron with a dime size foot on it-it came with a universal welding sticks that have kevlar fibers in it-I would back up the repair area with 3m aluminum repair tape and fill in your hole-cheers Denyy

Are measuring spoons only made of plastic?

No, even tho the most common material for measuring spoons is indeed plastic, there are also companies that produce them in metal and other materials. However the plastic is the easiest kind to find in stores

What is the best material for spoon rests?

Spoon rests are made of different materials like wood, plastic, glass and ceramics. I personally believe the worst to be wood because it absorbs very easily any liquid and never really gets cleaned well. Plastic also absorbs, even tho much less than wood, and is much easier to clean. But, like wood, will probably retain the odors.
The best option I believe is ceramics, because is more commonly found than glass spoon rests, and is strong, easy to wash and doesn't absorb odors.

I have a spoon jammed between the teeth, I tried the allan wrench and it turns but does not free the spoon. I also tried the broom stick handle but no luck. Is there a way to release the teeth or loosen...

The mouth of sink open is too small to get vice grips onto spoon.

There are 2 ways to proceed.
1) Put big screwdriver in crack to see if you can make opening wider so spoon comes out.
2) Remove disposal from below and then grab spoon with vice grips.
Instructions to remove:
-Loosen 2 nuts on p-trap, and take off p-trap.
-Don't move other tubular pipes. Any tubular pipe that moves will have to be disassembled and cleaned and reassembled.

-Disposal is attached with steel ring. Rotate ring to remove.
-Disposal will drop down where you can work on it.

If spoon does not come loose, then buy same brand disposal and replace without replacing sink basket.

-Reattach disposal by lifting disposal into place with one hand and use other hand to set ring.
-Ring catches in 3 places. All three catches have to be in place.
-If disposal is too hard to hold while moving ring, then use bottle jack to lift disposal. Be sure to put board on bottom of disposal so jack doesn't punch a hole in disposal.

-Tubular pipe parts have to be cleaned. Rubber washers are generally replaced. Plastic washers are re-used. Tapered part of plastic washer goes away from nut.
-We use good slap of rectoseal on all tubular washers to make sure they seal

It has standing water in it and will not drain or run a new cycle

Mine does this from time to time. If you have your manual, take a look at how to clean out the drain. If not, carefully turn the traps on the bottom, lift out the rectangular screen and the two plastic traps one at a time. Bail out your dishwasher and drain as far as you can, using a spoon, ladle or measuring cup to drain the trap. Once you have done that, there should be a small semi circle of plastic tubing on the bottom left. Pull that out carefully. Reach back and dislodge anything in the plastic rotary piece you can feel behind that with your fingers. Take out any food remants, etc. that might be blocking the drain. Put back to gether and see if it drains. I've had to do this about 8 times over the last 2 years with mine but it always works afterwards. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it continues to work!

Bosch shu5313 pump won't shut off

danimaldds there are 2 pumps in this dw, a drain pump and a circulation pump. If it is the drain pump that is running, look in the base under the machine. Remove the kick plate and see if there is water in the base. If so remove the water and see if the pump shuts down. If not look to the left side under the machine there is a red plastic stick, lift up on it with a wooden or plastic spoon. Do this a couple of times. It is possible the overfil float is stuck. If the circulation pump keeps running, then the control unit is the cause. Hope this helps
