Takes about 5 minutes for picture to appear... Then every one to two minutes the picture disappears. It comes back on for 1 - 2 minutes then repeats. When set if first turned on, the stereo/stand-by light (red) flashes on/off until just before picture first appears.

I have a 2005, 42" toshiba LCD model 42DPC85 that when we turn it on everything is good except the whole screen is black but imediatly the colors dot by dot start making the black disappear, it only took...

You need a new DLP chip. The chip has little mirrors that are black on one side and white on the other side. When the chip wears out , your screen will turn white one dot at a time or black one dot at a time or they may just all stick shut at once. Since your screen is black, all your mirrors are closed. You can buy the chip from shopjimmy.com and they have a video of how to replace the chip so you can do it yourself. It takes about 1 1/2 hours. The chip is about $160. To have this service done for you is about $200. Do it yourself and save the money. Your tv will be just like new again. Just make sure the chip is in perfectly level or when you turn your tv back on, your picture will be slanted. you won't notice it on the picture itself but words on the screen or scrolling messages and the menu will be slanted.

IF THIS SET HAS PIP (PICTURE IN PICTURE) THAN I'D SAY THE PIP MODULE IS GOING BAD. YOU CAN REPLACE IT OR GET THE BYPASS PLUG FOR IT. IT JUST PLUGS IN.

I get a black square on my screen after about 30 seconds when I tune to some channels. Does not do it on every channel. If I tune to another and then back it will be gone but soon reappears. jd

This sounds like your closed caption has been activated. There are several closed caption options that aren't used for anything, and if you select one by pressing the cc button on your remote by mistake, it will cause the problem you're having. To fix the issue, locate the cc, ccd, or closed caption button on your remote. Press it until you the option "off" appear on the screen. Once you see "off," simply stop pressing the button and the word "off" will disappear.

Sounds like the explorer.exe process might be restarting. Open Task manager and keep refreshing the processes to see if explorer.exe disappears/re-appears.
