Hello,
To raise a number to some power other than 2 or 3, you use the [y to the x] key. Exemple 2[y to the x] 5 = 2x2x2x2x2=32.
Hope it helps.

PS. I could not understand what you wanted with those expressions.

Y=x^2-7x+4, y=-8x^2+56x-86

Since the y-variable is isolated in both equations, set the two right sides of the equations equal
x^2-7x+4=-8x^2+56x-86
Combine all like terms on one side of the equal sign
9x^2-63x+90=0. factor out the 9 to get 9(x^2-7x+10)=0
Now solve the equation (x^2-7x+10)=0. The solutions are x=5 and x=2
Calculate the y-value tof be y=-6
The two solutions are (2,-6) and (5,-6)
Graphically, here is how the two curves intersect. One intersection point in the screen capture is (2,-6). You can read that the other intersection point is (5,-6)

How do i solve an unknown coefficient?

You have presumably one variable (x) and a parameter k. This equations represents a family of quadratic curves. The only way you can solve for parameter k is if you give at least two coordinate points (x_1,y_1) and (x_2,y_20 through which the curve passes. Failing that you cannot.
I suggest you check your problem again and better still check the theory before attempting to solve any problems. Sorry.

No instructions can with this calculator. How do I do simple equations without giving the variable a stored number? It would be nice if these things came with a sampe page. i.e. 3x+2-4x+1. also is there...

Strange. The calculator comes with a Getting Started manual. In any event you can download an electronic copy from education.ti.com.
From the associated icon of the calculator, I surmise that you have TI Nspire without the CAS (Computer Algebra System). Unfortunately, this version of the Nspire cannot perform symbolic algebra. It will use the distributive property by itself if you feed it expressions without letter symbols. If you type in expressions with symbols, all symbols must have a value stored in them. The exception is instances where you are trying to solve an equation (or a systems of linear equations).

TI-83 graph problems-help please. Hi, sorry to sound so stupid, but trying for hours to try to solve these using my calculator, but doing something wrong as can't get the right answers. I wonder if anyone...

Parabolas
Open Y= editor and type in the two functions

The calculaus functions are accessible by pressing [2nd][TRACE] to open the CALCulate menu options. For the gradient (I think you mean the derivative) use option 6:dy/dx. But first choose the point where you want it calculated (use cursor to move along the curve) and press ENTER. The value of the deivative will be calculated at the chosen point.

The vertex of the parabolas are maxima. Thus you must use option 4:maximum

You will be prompted for a left bound. Move cursor to the left of the maximum (not too far) and press [ENTER]. A fat arrow is displayed on the graph that shows the left limit of the interval. You will be prompted for a right bound. Move cursor along the curve to the right of the the vertex. Press ENTER. A seconf fat arrow will be displayed to show the right limit of the interval.

You will be prompted for a guess of the maximum. Move cursor newar the max or enter a numerical value and press ENTER.

I have no idea what you mean by the equation of symmetry

Hello,
Since you know about the catalog, that is where you find the equal sign, near the bottom of the list. It is faster if you scroll up from abs(.
Hope it helps.

Hello,
Doesn't any body do their homework anymore? How are they supposed to learn anything?
Draw your graphs by hand or on a graphing calculator.
Think about the intersection points. (What does that mean when two curves intersect?)
Use the equation for the demand to obtain D for a particular x.
You can also determine by how much one function exceeds another for a particular value of the x variable (the graph is rather clear).
I assume you can solve a quadratic equation.
Use these hints to solve the problem.
Here is a graph. I even restricted it to the first quadrant so as not to mislead you into giving meaningless answers.

Functions?

Hello,
I am afraid I am missing something here. You can start with the expression of a function and have it graphed on a graphing calculator.
Or you can enter the experimental data, represent them on a graphing calculator and ask the calculator to find the curve that fits the data best, and once that curve is found to give you the equation.
However your calculator does not have the graphing capabilities. All you can do is enter the data and ask the calculator to perform a regression to obtain the expression of the function that fits best.

The available options for the calculator are accessible by pressing [MODE][3:Stat] and
2. A+BX linear
3: _+cX^2 quadratic
4: ln X logarithmic
5: e^X exponential
6:A*B^X power
7: A*X^B Polynomial
8: 1/X

Hope it helps.

Using the ti89 to solve mesh equations

This book is what I used to help learn how to solve mesh circuits. A high education level helps. You just set it up as you see it in a simultaneous equation.

Electrical Engineering Applications with the TI-89
Electrical Engineering students will find the 70 topics covered in this book provide in-depth analyses of how to solve many common engineering problems using the powerful CAS system of the TI-89.

Variables

The TI-30XA cannot solve algebraic equations. You need a more advanced calculator for that, like the TI-89.
