E-machines desktop PC will not power up at all

We were given an older e-machines desktop computer with a standard tower. It worked fine for a month or two, but then one day we went to use it and the power up button does not even work. The power source is fine, but no sounds, no nothing. Help. Wow I have the same problem too!!! I didnt use it for a while & then when i tried to switch it on.... nothing! I did hear very faint click every time i tried (&I tried lots), A friends b-friend, who used to work in a private pc shop had a look at it, he reckons it is the processor & that i need a new one, but he has since then turned out 2b a waste of space, so will try a new power supply first, i think!!

My computer mouse and keyboard not functioning well. I replace the keyboard but only last a month.

Hi jhunix,

I'm going to need even more information; The devices that use PS2 connections, which device is it, and how many of those devices do you have?

One thing that might be a problem, if the issue you see is intermittent, I would check the PS2 connector and see if the pins are bent or broken. PS2 connector pins sometimes will bend or break and this can cause some connection issues if not completely stop the keyboard/mouse from working... Also given the age of your PC the PS2 port may just be bad, but this is not a fatal injury to a computer.

Replacing the Keyboard and Mouse with a standard USB keyboard and mouse, should resolve all of your issues.

PS2 is an older technology that keyboards and mice used to run on; Now however USB connections are used.

Further more, if this an HP Desktop with 2 USB ports on the front, and 4 USB ports on the back, you will want to avoid using the 2 USB ports on the front, especially on older HP and Dell Desktops, the reason is the power supplies often do not have enough power to run multiple USB devices on the front USB ports.

The back ports should be fine regardless of the number of devices.

Hope this helps.

M5640 power comes on no video. changed motherboard and power supply

I assume you are using the integrated video, (on board). With a new power supply and motherboard you have eliminated all but the monitor. Try a different monitor. I have also seen a case where a computer tower worked fine in one setup with a flat screen, but when hooked up to an older CRT monitor it would not display because of the resolution settings.

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

What is Mini Tower ATX Cabinet

A mini tower is a PC desktop case which is approx half the height of a full size desktop tower case. ATX probably refers to a ATX switch mode power supply.

E-machines desktop PC will not power up at all

1) Check and see if the switch on the power supply is turned on (if there is one).

If it still won't turn on then most likely the power supply is dead. It's not very expensive to replace.
The other explanation might be that the power-on switch maybe broken...

Pc start-up failure

It could be overheating. Make sure all the components and fans inside the tower a clean of dust. Get a can of compressed air and blow all the dust out. You could also try removing and re-seating all your pc cards, memory sticks and cables.

No power after external power failure

The first thing I have to advise you is to change the Power supply unit. Before buying one change it with another one (probably from a friend's PC) and see if it is working. To remove the power supply unit, you need to remove your tower's case, and unscrew the power supply and remove it. the power supply is the metallic box on top of the computer at the back.

Power Problem

It sounds to me like your power unit inside the tower smoked. If you have the time and patience, replacing the power unit isn't to difficult to accomplish. You need to go to your computers manufacture online and download instructions via e-mail. There might have been a power overload that caused it to go. You can also remove all connections and take the whole tower to a repair shop to be tested. Usually $25.00 or less to verify problem. Hope it works.
