Burns bread before it can get done. Tried it three times. I am making a 1 1/2 pound loaf of sweet bread. I tried setting it to one pound and light crust but it still burns the bread before it gets done. I have a Westbend breadmaker and it makes this receipe perfect. I don't understand why this one burns the bread. Is there a way to cut the heat bake? What do I need to do? This bread maker is useless to me if it is going to burn the bread before it can get done. HELP!!!!!!!

    I have tried seversal recipes of various sizes and crust settings. All were too burned to eat. I tried it with two different machine of the same model CBK200 and they both burned.

Look very carefully where the bread pan goes in. There is a heating element around it. If the bread pan is too close or touching the heating element ( the round thing running around the wall), it will burn the bread. You can try moving the bread pan away from the heating element. If you try and bend the heating element, it may break the element, so move the bread pan only.

I just want to set my machine for a loaf of white bread, ? Bought it at a thrift store , no manual!

What make is it? Is it 1 pound or 2 pounds loaf?
Here is a basic recipe, for white bread.
1& 1/3 cups lukewarm water.
2 Tbls powdered milk.
1 &1/2 salt.
1 Tbls sugar.
2 Tble butter or marg.
3 & 3/4
1 tsp. yeast.
put ingredients in pan in order of written.
Select the BASIC setting and REGULAR or DARK crust.
push button to star, depending on the breadmaker you have, you may have 15 minutes plus time delay.
the unit will beep when done.
remove bread let cool a few minutes and sometimes you have to remove the paddle inside the bread.

I have an Oster 5838 Bread machine. How do I select the bread size? I want to make a 1 1/2 pound loaf and it is over cooking. Thank you.

If it is overcooking it is either cooking too hot or too long. You can select a lighter loaf (L) or set a separate timer and take it out a few minutes before the bread machine says it is done. Sweeter breads brown faster.

Look at the box first. Many times it will have instructions on it. However sometimes it may not and have only the the dry ingredients. If the box has no instructions, see how many cups of flour the mix uses. If it uses 3 cups of flour total, the mix is for a 1 1/2 pound loaf. If the mix uses 2 cups of flour it will make a 1 pound loaf. Box missing this info? It's time to take the flour out of the box to measure it with at measuring cup. Mixes sometimes combine all the ingredients together so it will measure bit more than 3 cups for a 1 1/2 pound loaf or 2 cups for 1 pound loaf. After finding out how big the loaf is going to be then get the bread pan and instruction manual and start constructing the dough. I'd find the recipe in the manual that matches the mix the best to find out how much liquid to use. (for a classic whit its 1 cup for 1 1/2 pound leaf and 3/4 cup for 1 pound loaf) Then I put the liquid in the pan first along with butter (if necessary), followed by the dry ingredients in the mix with the yeast at the top. Put the pan into the bread machine and select 1 or 1 1/2 loaf or if it is a french or sweet bread. Press start. Unfortunately I have a different machine than you do, but I think this will help.
