Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV280 Digital Camcorder
Started to eat one of my tapes. Wouldn't eject it. Finally did eject it and allow me to get the cassette out but then it wouldn't close. I let it sit open for a month (forgot about it). I always store it plugged into the charger. Battery life shows full. I was able to put the head cleaner tape in today but it just said re-insert cassette and now it won't eject it. It is open, and partially ejected but won't allow me to open it to get the cassette out. Just sticking out of the machine. Can't get cassette out or push it back in. Battery has never been replaced.
Try removing the battery and charging it. Then put the battery back on the camera. This will reset the cassette system. The cassette should open or close depending upon what status it is in. Once you get the camera to eject fully, clean your heads with a dry head cleaner cassette for Hi8 video. If your camera is still eating tape, could be a broken pin or damaged heads.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

A much better way to clean cassette heads is to get some cotton buds and a Can of Servisol Video 40. You should be able to get the Servisol from places like Radio Shack or if in the UK somewhere like jessops or Maplin. I have also seen it on Amazon.
Just spray it on the head (only a small amount) then wipe of the dirt with a bud.
