Re: Honda Passport '98 compatibility

They are sized by a measurement system known as DIN. Yours is either a DIN 1 or a DIN 2, differentiated by the height of opening in dash. Simply put, the DIN 2 is twice as large as a DIN 1. If the opening height is roughly 2-1/2" high, you need a DIN 1 unit. Prior to the DIN rating system, many owners were frustrated over the 'FIT' incompatibility with various widths, depths and heights.

I want to install a unit into my work truck

go to a reputable stereo store and buy the wire harness connector for your truck to universal and one from universal to your stereo; also buy an installation kit for your model truck, (this will contain all the plastics necessary to fit the stereo to your dashboard),these usually contain several configurations for different vehicles so follow the instructions carefully. these may seem rather daunting at first, but if you fermiliarise yourself with all parts/instructions before starting it shouldn't be too hard or take too long; good luck

Hooking sat to car stereo

that plug at the back is not for sat radio. It is for use with steering wheel controls. You have the blue plug at rear of stereo and that is the plug for sat radio. Ericson electronics is contracted to build the sat compatible units that wire into this radio through the blue. plug. if you are using 3.5 plug audio control from a portable sat receiver, the you will need to buy an aux input cable for your stereo..

I am trying to connect a kenwood KDC-MP3035 to a 1997 Honda Passport but none of the wires match up, what do i do to make it work?

Hello oz101ez,

The wires have to be matched by function, not by color. Here is a link to the color code for the stock radio harness in your Passport. Connect whatever color wire your Kenwood manual says is for 12V + (usually yellow for most aftermarket receivers) to the "red/white" in your Passport. Connect the Kenwood accessory wire (usually red) to the brown/white wire in your passport. Just continue matching up each wire function and colors on both ends.

Best would be an aftermarket wiring harness vehicle specific for the Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo. The Metra 70-7712 seems to be the correct one for your vehicle. probably has the largest selection of wiring harnesses available anywhere. They'll even match the vehicle harness to an aftermarket receiver harness and connect them using solder and heat-shrink insulation if you desire.

Most local car audio shops will carry some wiring harnesses. Also retailers like Best Buy may have them, albeit at much inflated prices. Online car audio retailers like and have a good selection and their prices will probably be somewhere in between, lower than local but higher than

Hope this helps.
