Re: Sony Vaio cannot start up

I kept pressing #2 on my keyboard as was recommended elsewhere-that finally led to the puter coming on and noting it would do a total fresh install. Unfortunatley lost all programs and files on my computer-but at least I was able to use it again. Now i will be certain to make a back up disc on a regular basis in case this happens again. Hope this helps someone else.

Re: Sony Vaio cannot start up

Hi, This sounds as if a sizable/critical portion of your OS is not loading properly if you cannot even boot to Safe Mode or any other choice. Probably your best course of action would be to reinstall your OS doing a Repair and not a clean fresh install. Your PC might have recovery CDs for this purpose. Hope this be of some idea/help. Post back how things went or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

I purchased a used vaio vgc-rb43. Upon turning on a message appears stating "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" What can I do from here?

It probably is a "dead" disk-drive inside the computer.
So, the computer would try to boot from the 3.5-inch diskette drive, or the CD/DVD drive,
if there was "bootable" media inside the device.

So, you need to take the computer to a computer-store, to remove the "dead" disk-drive,
and for them to sell you a "new" and "compatible" disk-drive.

Then, you must re-install Windows (did the seller include a set of "System Restore") CD/DVD disks? Or, can you telephone Sony, and order a replacement set of those disks?

Computer keeps restarting before logging in

As it boots up,press the F8 key repeatedly to bring up the operating system menu. Choose last known good configuration and see if windows will start ok. If not, try the same thing but choose safe mode with networking.
This symptom can have various causes, depending on the operating system you're on, whether you've made recent hardware or software changes to your system, or whether you may have been exposed to malware.
I recommend installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from , updating it, and running a scan of your system to check for the presence of malicious programs,
But there are steps you can take to troubleshoot the startup for XP click here or Vista click here.
If you get it started, you can use msconfig to disable the non-microsoft services on your computer and restart to see if you still have problems. If not, then you can selectively enable the disabled services until you determine which is causing the problem.
You might also look in the event viewer at the application logs and see if there is an event id associated with a system error or warning that coincides with the restart. This can help to diagnose the error.
If this doesn't help get you logged on, please send more info about your OS and any recent changes you made to your system or problems you've experienced and we'll try to help you sort it out...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
