Washer stopped after wash cycle

I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II that has run reliably for years. Today it stopped just after the wash cycle and now the tub is full of soapy water with a load of clothes. I have tried moving the dial around to other settings - nothing happens. The dial does sound like it's trying to move between the wash and rinse cycle - but never completes and just stops.

I have ready the other posts and have tried pushing down on the lid and even "hitting" it - nothing happens.

Thanks for any assistance as soon as possible

The lid switch is the culprit. Push down on the lid it should start. It needs to be adjusted . the tab on the lid is not activating the switch. Try triming the door bumpers.

Washer stopping mid-cycle

Push down on lid. You may have a bad lid switch. Start machine and press the switch down with something like a screwdriver and see if the motor runs.

THe most likely cause for this is either the lid switch or the timer itself sticking.
