Question about Everex StepNote VA4103M Notebook
I've had my Stepnote for about 6 months. All of a sudden I cannot get any sound to come out from my speaker. Not mp3 files on WinAmp, not computer alert sounds, not audio from embedded video on websites. The sound does work, however, if I have headphones plugged in. I'm afraid it may be a hardware problem with the headphone jack itself. I tried updating my audio driver, but it said I have the most current one.
Hello, You will probably need to dissasemble your laptop and check both the jack output and the speaker wires. You noticed that when you insert a headphone the internal speakers are muted automatically. This is due to a mechanical contact in the audio output jack. Therefore the jack itself needs to be checked (replaced eventually). If that's not the problem the wires to the speakers may not make a perfect electrical contact. DOn't worry about a more severe hardware fault. If the internal audio amplifier, on wich the speakers are connected, was broken then you woundn't have sound on the headphones either. So in the final the problem is dissasembling the laptop. If you aren't confortable with this, please don't try because a laptop is a fairly complicated device and it's dissasembly can prove difficult even for experienced people. Every laptop model has it's own mechanical make-up so therefore is hard to know them all. If you think you can do this you may contact me on the chat because the process will be complicated and I will need a large amount of feedback from you as the things go by. Otherwise, a service center could do that for you. It shouldn't be an expensive repair, and they should offer warranty for this repair in case you have problems in the future. Sorry for I'm not able to help you further on this way.
