Re: controllers

Try replacing the controller ribbon inside the PS2, as it may be corroded, or other-wise damaged. This usually occurs after taking apart the console, and if this be the problem, is easy and cheap to fix.

My ps2 does not respond to the control buttons, but shows a picture on the screen

I can think of two problems here.
First, (not trying to insult your intelligence here) make sure the controller is plugged in all the way. If that doesnt help, the controller may be malfunctioning or the controller port inside the console may be malfunctioning (possibly a loose ribbon cable).
Try the controller in both controller ports and if that doesnt work, try a different controller. If that still doesnt resolve your problem, you may need to fix the controller port.
If you feel comfortable opening the console (keep in mind this would void any warranty you might have and could lead to further damage to the console), you might have a look to see if the ribbon cable to the controller port is loose and/or replace the controller port.

Audio, but no video on PS2

Try the system on another TV. If this doesn't yield any results, then you may need to get the console replaced.

If you can see video on the other TV set, try to connect the console to the TV directly, rather than through the A/V ports on your DVD player or HD converter box, as this can sometimes cause more harm than good.

HDMI Problem

ok i think you need to reset the video settings here is a step by step procedure which you can follow

To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these steps:
  1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
  2. Turn off the console.
  3. Turn on the console.

Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn on the console by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller. Wait for the guide light to indicate that the controller has linked to the console.

Note Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller is indicated by the upper-left quadrant light on the console.
  4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button as you pull the right trigger.

Note This action causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the default settings. The console then automatically restarts.

PS2 wont read FFXII

Something has to be different between FFXII and another PS2 game. This could be color of the media side, or it could be CD or DVD format. Most likely it is CD format and your CD laser diode is failing. Try a Music CD to see if it will work. If it is a PS2 slim, I suggest a new laser.

Won't play a dvd

Go to a local video game store, i.e. GameStop or Best Buy and see if you can pick one of these up. I don't know who carries them new anymore, but GameStop or some used game store should have them. I think they run about $15 new or $10 used. I keep mine plugged into the 4th controller port so I never have to take it out. It'll work just fine once it's in there.

Super Nintendo Start/Select Button not working all the sudden

your problem will be with the mating surfaces of the switch contacts themselves.
i,ve cleaned several console hand-pads. to find that sweat and food debris mixed together, get under the contact pads.
this is the small piece of carbon ( mounted under the silicone rubber pad ) inside the controller.
these should be wiped with a cotton bud, swabbed in a small amount of lighter fluid ( or methylated spirits ) and wiped clean.
re-assemble controller.
check the cable for signs of wear, also the controller port mating surfaces should be shiny copper connections. if these are not mating with the controller, then no signal is being transmitted between the pad and input ports.
look carefully, if any pins are lower than others, take a fine electrical screwdriver or needle, and gently bend the pin upwards, so that they all align at the same height.
Failing this, you have faults on you controller port input sockets.
these can be replaced, as they,re ribbon cabled to the mainboard. this is a job if your electrically competant.
Hope this helps.

p.s if it was simple, everyone would be doing it :)

Controller port 1

I had the same problem once, although with controller port 2. What had happened with me is someone had jammed the controller into the port too hard and actually jarred the board inside loose. When I would plug in the controller, it fit ok but wasn't making a good connection inside the machine. This could also be caused by repeat plugging/unplugging or if a controller was pulled out by someone tripping over a cable or something. I wouldn't recommend opening the system yourself as it will void your warranty, but if this is the issue, it is very easy to fix. Another possible problem is just a bad controller, try another controller if you have one, if not, plug your current one into port 2.
