Hi, The 385xd is a great little laptop. To change the boot sequence you need to go into the BIOS, to do that you need to hold down the shift F1 key, while the system is trying to load. You should see a blue screen with square icons. Tab over to the boot Icon.(or use the red scroll button) There should be a bird cursor, and hit the enter key, from there you can change the sequence of bootup. If you have a startup disk for win 2000, you can use that from the floppy drive after you reset the boot sequence. It will ask bring up a screen and have a list of ways to boot to the hard drive for restore. Hope this helps.
I just woke up to a 502 error (stuck key) After checking the keyboard & disconnecting it I FINALLY got into system restore .After 2 tries 2 that I restored to a point BEFORE I installed SERIF Pages Plus and everything is fine now .(VIRUS)? ....I dont know ,but,I'll just leave that one alone for now! Maybe it's just me, but I didn't like the feeling of maybe having to restore& losing ALL my pictures Saved business cards, etc. I hope this helps.
301 indicates a stuck key. Just test each in turn to see if one is immobile. The keyboard is usually held in place by screws on the bottom, which should be marked. Undo the screws and gently lever the keyboard forward. You can then check that the keyboard cable is properly inserted into its socket, or if there is any dirt stopping a key moving.

As far as I am aware, the IBM Thinkpad T30 only has USB 1.1 ports, so your only answer is to add a USB2.0 PCMCIA card... you can probably pick one up on an online auction house new for less than $20.00. The USB1.0 built in ports are not upgradable. Nice laptop for an older model by the way... it was the model NASA choose to use to download their digital images with on the ISS, as it was, for its time, the most powerful, lightest, rugged and reliable notebook. Hope this info helps...
Try ejecting it and putting it into the other multibay to see if it works. What sort of symptoms is it exhibiting? It is probably dead as this is an old system and parts wear out over time, especially dvd-rom drives. These are pretty cheap and can be replaced easily. Make sure you save the dvd rom frame and ide connector from the drive as you will need this to apply to another drive.
I would return the drive if you bought it on ebay for a functioning one. Most reputable sellers will test items before shipment and refuse shipment if it fails testing. Other fail safes are having a period of time to test the item and return it if defective.
