Maytag Performa Large Capacity Top-load Washer

The top half of the agitator separates from the bottom. Is there a way I can get it to stay in place again? I have tried pushing the top of the agitator onto the bottom half, but it soon works it's way loose again. Any suggestions?

Krazytech, Just because your solution didn't work for me does not mean it won't be helpful to someone else who reads it. It was just not helpful to ME...but thanks for the personal attack. You may be a "Master" at technical questions, but you fail miserbly at customer relations. By the way, some people need help with THEIR spelling before posting THEIR negative replies.

Hello - we have a top loading Maytag Performa washing machine that leaks water during the spin cycle when my wife is washing heavy items that she has placed on center spindal to avoid an unbalanced load....

Maytag Epic is leaking water from the bottom about 8 or 9 inches from the front door back on the right side. Is there and thing i can do. It only about 2 years old or less.

The top of the agitator does not move, but the bottom does.

There are little ratchet pawls that make the top 1/2 agitate in one direction only.... they cost about 7 bucks and 85 to install, not hard, just tricky to intall..

The secret to long life is to not overload and use more than enough water...

Maytag Performa top loader is making grinding noises

The agitators are a pop-on fit. Make sure that the agitator is firmly seated on the shaft. Lift it up and if it moves easily adjust it to the splines on the shaft and press it back into place.

Maytag top load performa, put clothes in , fill up and now the agitator is noisey, looked under washer belt appears to be loose 2-3 inches in play, should I replace belt,or something else to repair noise...

thats normal tension on the belt if the agitator is making noise the cams within the agitator are worn (loud clicking or popping noise during wash) the agitator will need to be replaced

Agitator gear is stripped

just place both feet on the agitator as it sits on the floor and lift up on the top half. there are plastic tabs on the bottom half that hold the two pieces together. you will need to remove the 2 tabs before putting the 2 pieces together. the bolt that you screw the agitator down with will hold the 2 pieces together. Loose Agitator

Usually, there is a bolt that holds the agitator on. If you remove the cap off the center of the agitator, you should find a bolt underneath that you can tighten back down. Adding a little thread lock to the bolt wont hurt.
