Re: screen cleaning

Mix a solution of water and rubbing alcohol 10:1. You may add 1 to 2 drops of mild dishwashing detergent. Using a soft cloth, clean the screen in an up and down motion.

If your unit is older it most likely needs the lenses, mirror and screen cleaned properly. As far as changing the water, the unit does have a special coolant between the lense and the CRT face to help cool them, but the system is sealed and should never need changed unless there is a serious problem.

I have a tip at which explains the cleaning procedure and should be helpful to get through the cleaning process.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

What should be used to clean the TV viewing screen

Soft cotton cloth would be fine to clean front screen of TV. Do not use any liquid or detergent in cleaning.

Need to clean lenses and do manual focus/alignment of guns on a VS-5055. How do I get access to them and adjust? Thank you.

the lenses are accessable by removing lower back of unit, clean them with a damp paper towel-wipe them off with a dry one.put back back on unit.
screen/focas controls are in front of unit.remove speaker grill remove black cover using phillips will see 2 sets of row is row is screen, green, blue.turn each focas control slowly to get the clearest picture for each color.screen controls are touchy(if you turn then too high unit will shut off)if the black and white picture was good i would not adjust screen controls.if it was bad turn blue and green screens down all the way.picture is now red turn green up until it turns yellow then turn blue up until it turns white

Projection screen is wet....:(

Hi Coyito,
We do have to love our helpful children. I know my grandchildren can always be so helpful. Smiling.
As for your problem, you can clean the screen by using a light soap and water solution ( like you would clean your windows ). If the water got onto the picture tubes on the inside of the set, you'll need to open the set up by removing the screws on the back panel as to expose the tubes and clean then in the same manner you clean the screen.
Make sure that before doing any of these procedures, make sure all the water that your daughter got into the set is dry ( this may take a few days) and while the set is drying don't use it and unplug the set. There may be some water on the main board causing a short and if you let the set dry up, it may work properly in a few days.
Good Luck and I hope this has helped.

there are two screens..the lenticular..and the can try to pull them apart(very fragile!) and clean them but you must be careful not leave any water or moister between them(blowdry or wipe completely dry after cleaning with damp cloth) do not rub too hard...just spray warm water on the rag and carefully wipe clean ...then dry. Putting the screens back together isn't too tricky but let me stress..these screens cannot be bent or they will break...pull them off with two people(one on each side)..also you will have to take the front cover off because the screens are literally clamped down to the front cover.....good luck...let me know if you need futher assistance..........mike
