50" Plasma Screen Popped

13 months after my purchase I was watching it and all of a sudden it just popped and the screen went black! Since I had not extended warranty no place will work on it. So basicly I have a 300lb paperweight. i found a guy in the local PennySaver, who is coming next to look at it and says he does fix them. He says it will be a $60.00 fee to come out and diagnose the problem and if he is able to fix it he will apply the $60.00 to whatever his fee for fixing it. He thinks in might be one of the 4 power supplies. so we will see.

My Zenith z50px2d 50 inch hdtv popped, turned black and red. Bought TV in
Dec '05. Called LG (Zenith) at 1-800 number found on the LG website. When I
explained the problem, they tried to say it was the HDMI cable, but I would not
agree with that and I insisted that my TV was fried. I also mentioned the
internet is covered up with people with the same problem. After that, they
acknowledged there was a problem and authorized a local repair for my TV. I
would advise anyone who owns this TV and is experiencing this problem to call LG
    to arrange a repair.

This is Linshine giving you more feedback on this problem of the problem. The service guy has had my tv going on 2 months. He tried replacing the Yboard and the power supply, and still no picture. He told me Wednesday that he only knows one more thing it could be and that is the display! He is going to let me know if he can get a display from a company that resells refurnished TV's. My god this has turned out to be a real nightmare!!

Seems as though this is a very common problem. I have the Z50PX2D, purchased from Circuit City on 11/29/05. I took the time to register the TV online at the Zenith site. The TV "popped" the other day and now has no picture. Sound is ok and I can change the channels. Decided to call Zenith/LG as others on here have done. Explained the problem to the young lady I spoke with and she put me on hold for three minutes after taking some info. When she came back she said that my warranty would be extended to cover parts only; I would have to pay for labor. She also provided the names/numbers of three local repair shops. I chose one and she said they will fax the paperwork to the shop on Monday, 12/24/07. I will contact the shop on Wednesday (after Christmas) to arrange for repair. I will follow-up here on exactly what was replaced and the labor cost.

    1/25/08 UPDATE
After several aggravating attempts to get Zenith to fax the warranty authorization paperwork to the repair shop I finally got them to fax it to me at work. Took the paperwork and television to the shop on 1/11/08. Picked up the TV today and I must say it's looking great! The repairman had it running when I came to get it. He replaced the Y Sustain, Z Sustain, Upper Y Drive, and Lower Y Drive. Total cost for me was $210. LG/Zenith paid for the replaced parts (around $900 according the the repair shop).

I am happy with the result of this experience. I could be thoroughly disgusted having to spend money on a TV that cost me quite a bit new. However, I figured LG/Zenith stepped up and took care of the issue when they didn't have to. My set was one year beyond its warranty period and they really had no obligation to extend my warranty. From now on I will do a better job of researching something like this before I purchase it. I based my purchase decision solely on my previous (and my parents) experience with Zenith. However, this Zenith TV is not my parents Zenith TV (paraphrasing the old Chevy commercial).

Why does my samsung plasma 550 have no picture?

It sounds like a capacitor blew in one of the internal circuit boards. A capacitor makes the pop you described, and techs actually refere to them as "being popped".

Hi, I have an Insignia 50 in plasma television that all of a sudden went to nothing but vertical lines, then popped a cuople of times and went black. Sound is still ok.Enybody have an answer for me as to...

this is a buffer issue.

do the line go through the menu if you display the menu when the lines are visible?

do the lines go from the top to the bottom of the screen or stop halfway there?

do the lines change colors?

if the lines go over the menu and all the way down to the bottom of the screen, then its a buffer issue, top and bottom buffer.

hopefully it's just halfway then you only have to replace the top buffer, less money to spend.

Was watching tv, al of asudden something popped

This could be almost anything. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4916941-diagnose_repair_projection_tv_high which explains the process for finding the problem, walking a non technical person through it and listing places to get parts at a good price. If this tip does not solve the problem it has a link to another tip which explores more problems your set could have. Good luck. Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

VIZIO BLACK SCREEN

That problem is the Ysus board, Sometimes people will replace the Zboard at the same time. If you bought it at costco a couple of years ago you are in luck costco will refund your purchase price, costco has changed the return policy and newer tv's are not refunded, but something to look into
