Question about Operating Systems
When I insert a cd rom the icon does not display on my monitor. I am using a Mac with OS 10.3
It seems like you may just have a display option you need to configure. In the Finder's preferences you can choose which types of volumes to show in finder's sidebar (ie. Removable Media, Removable HDs, etc.). If you can find the CD-ROM in Finder at all, you simply need to Right-click and choose "Get Information" from there you can set preferences for that type of media ( you can do this for ALL file types on osx including HDs, Media files etc.)

U must set jumper on you'r HDD and CD-ROM, so you have primary and slave IDE controlet, remove HDD and CD-ROM and set HDD jumper master and CD-ROM jumper on slave. If is posilbe use two IDE cables one for HDD and one for CD-ROM. Have luck.

If I understand the issue, it sounds like the
monitor screen is going out.
But there are a couple of things to try since
being close to a high voltage source or incorrect Resolution setting could
cause something close to that.
Let us start with the Display resolution since
it is the easiest.
Hold down on the Apple in the upper left-hand
corner of your screen.
1. Select System Preferences
2. Click on the Displays icon
3. In the box under Resolutions make
sure a resolution selected has 60 Hz if you are running a Flat Screen (LCD)
If that is not the issue, try moving the Mac to
a different location. (Next room)
If that does not work, try booting the machine
for the install disk, if it looks fine when running from the disk you could
have a corrupt driver. In that case reinstalling the OS should fix it.
Ok none of that works: Take the machine to your
local Apple store for the Genius to look at. He should be able to tell by
looking at it what is up.
Best of luck.
