Right click my computer and choose properties then device manager
Look for anything yellow or has a yellow highlight or a ?
that means its eighter damaged or has a problem
you need to reinstall the drivers there are many ways to do this here are the easy 2
1.) you main board came with a driver cd, insert the cd, install the drivers then restart
2.) if you cant find the cd, download a program like driver magician
www.drivermagician.com and install that program, it can detect and install your drivers for you automatically.
are that restart
verify that you have the correct device selected
1.) click start, all programs, windows media player
2.) click tools , options, devices
3.) click refresh and select the propper device ( speakers e.g)
4.) you can try different ones until you get one that works
If all the above fails you many need to reformat your computer, backup everything before attempting to do this,
1.) boot from a windows XP CD or insert in in the compuer
2.) follow the onscreen instructions to install it
3.) reinstall all drivers using any of the above described methods
4.) reinstall all your software
