2004 Jeep liberty runs hot while sitting idle

My Jeep has ran hot twice in the last two days. Both times my car was sitting in idle while I was waiting to pick up my daughter. Last night was the worst sitting idle at her high school first football game which was packed it started smoking really bad. The kids was afraid it would catch on fire several came to my door to ask did I need help getting out...WOW gotta do something my only car...I waited about hour and the car cooled a guy told me to turn on my heat when I started it so I did and we made it home safely... Where do I begin to trouble shoot?

My Jeep will run fine idleing even driving a lil way but its like it don't want to run or something gets hot.Let it sit a lilwhile starts up no problem

I had a similar problem - it was one of the sensors. You need to get a code to determine - if you dont get one right away, you need to check every time you start the car and the code will eventually appear. One time, the code appeared right away. Do not replace with a cheap sensor! It only lasted 2 days. Use NAPA or JEEP parts. Another time, the code took an entire week to show up.

I have a 2004 jeep liberty, when the vehicle is at a stand still the oil light comes on, as I start to drive and continue to drive the light goes out. Comes on again at times when standing still,...

1st thing to try is to replace the oil sinding unit, if the problem percets then have someone install a manuel oil pressuer gauge to check the oil pressuer at hot idle if oil pressuer is less then 10 psi at hot idle then replace the oil pump.

My 2002 liberty is overheating. If if run the air and sit at a stop sign it will run hot and immediatly heat up. If I sit idle at any time it will heat up. Replaced radiater twice and relay keeps going...

Have you tried to use the lowest thermostat - okay if you live in a place that you don't get real cold?

With all the problems you have had, I would take the vehicle to the best diagnostic computer in your area and see what it tells me.

I have a 1995 Grand Cherokee and still have original radio, relay, harness and compressor. I just clush the radiator and change antifreeze every two years, and change thermostats during flush.

2004 Jeep Liberty-the Oil indicator light comes on and will stay on. Turn off car immediately as the book indicates, let it sit for awhile, turn back on--light is off. Drive a few miles, light comes back...

Double check how much oil is in the engine, it could be coming on because your low on oil. I can only think of two other possibilities either you have a bad oil sending unit or you have a problem with your oil pump.
