my speed queen aws48nw also will not drain after wash/agitation cycle. i removed the plastic pump from below the motor and found that there is no blockage and that the impellar moves freely. when the timer is to engage the pump, there is a hum for roughly five to ten seconds and then it just goes silent. there seems to be something trying to start the motor on this cycle without any luck. the motor and belt move fine on the initial wash/agitate cycle. please assist in my query. thanks

I am a retired engineer of 20 years and the problem is the pump, remove plug from wall, drain the machine by hand first, remove the bottom back of the machine and test the 2 connectors on the pump for a circuit with a multimeter assuming you have the ability, an open circuit means a new pump is wanted, it may also be blocked / remove and clean out all bottom pipes and check inside pump for rotating impeller movement, it must be free to spin, if readings on meter are fine, build up and try again, work with safety, water and electric don't mix, also it may be that a wire has come off, check that first sorry,

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Whirlpool Washer will not progress to the rince cycle.

that is either a problem with the timer , or with the cold water hose at the back of the machine, see the following:

Machine fills with water & then clicks but goes no further. It will drain but no other function seems to work

    Won,t drain on rinse cycle

There could be several causes for this, but probably a bad timer. One test for this...when it stops...is to turn it off...and turn the timer slightly clockwise...to the middle of the rinse cycle...and turn it back on. Does it run then?? Try advancing it to the spin cycle after the rinse. If it runs okay after you manually advance the knob...the timer is probably defective.
