I have a c 772 and recently installed xp sp2. I've installed all drivers, including sound drivers but still there is an unknown device showing up in device manager and there is no sound in my laptop... Can anybody help me???

You can download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB
support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or
Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on
this link to download the drivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.html
Go to Compaq site, and check if there are drivers for win xp. Mind that xp does not include drivers for the most recent hardware. Have you tried installing sp2 and sp3? These carry more recent drivers than SP1 and older vesions. And if there are no drivers for xp, you are stuck with vista.
