Remove the recoil cover, remove the flywheel and inspect the shear key, it is likely sheared off or distorted and the timing is now off. Replace the key and it should start right up.
Bumped a tree and the mower died ?? If so, you broke the Keyway on the flywheel which threw off the Timing. Flywheel has to come off and a new keyway ( very cheap) has to be installed.
remove the valve cover on the front of the engine and check the valve adjustment they are known for loosing valve seats so if the valves don't adjust look into that
Check that your flywheel (magneto) is securely attached to the motor shaft. If it's not, that will give you erratic spark timing.
Access the top of your motor, remove any plastic covers surrounding the area where you can see the flywheel spinning. Remove the 4 or so screws attaching the cover and lift it out of the way.
Try lifting the flywheel off the motor. Make sure that top bolt is tight. Make sure there is a key between the shaft and the flywheel.

If you have kick back or the mower backfires you probably have a partially sheared flywheel key.
The good news is they are cheap and designed to shear to protect the motor from damage.
You can take the recoil cover off the engine and then remove the nut that holds on the flywheel and gently pry off the flywheel.
You should see a mangled flywheel key that was under the nut holding the flywheel on. Take it to a mower parts store and match it up with a replacement. Put the new one back in and reinstall the flywheel.
There is probably a cover on the front part of the mower that goes to the front wheels. remove the cover and you should have access to the belt. Carefully remove the belt (don't pinch your fingers) push it back towards the motor. You might have to remove the blade. Place new belt in the pulley on the engine shaft then to the pulley up front. Carefully start the belt on the front pulley and slowly turn it onto the pulley.
Hi
Very possible that the valve is stuck open and piston could have hit valve causing it to bend at the head. This would cause valve not to close completely. Would have to remove head and remove valve and most likely replace intake valve.
