Try resetting it. It appears to be a known issue.

CHECK WITH A BOAT DEALER

THERE SHOULD BE A LABEL WITH MODEL NUMBER ON THE BACK OR BOTTOM, OR USER MANUAL SHOULD BE ONLINE. IF NOT CALL SIMRAD, THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP.

Keep your Radio away from simrad units and adjust the squelch level.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but according to the Owners Manual for this unit:
http://www.busse-yachtshop.de/pdf/simrad-rd68.pdf (Page 6),
to erase a previously entered MMSI, the radio must be sent to a Simrad authorized dealer. I suppose this feature was put into effect to cut down on stolen Simrad products.
