Battery life is only 1 year, after that you will notice that it wont work as perfectly as before. if the system does power on without the ac adapter then battery might need to be replaced.
try to take out the battery from the laptop. plug the ac adapter. if the system works fine with the ac adapter then system is good. try using the battery only then if it wont stay on longer then it is a battery failure.

Try this, Unplug the power and remove the battery, while the battery and power are unhooked hold the power button down for 30 seconds, Put the battery back in and make sure you slide the locking tap to lock the battery in, try to start the computer, If it doesn't start, plug the power cord in and wait 3 minutes and try to start it, If it still will not start it has an internal issue and needs to be repaired.
