i am a recently retired engineer of 20 years and this could be a multitude of problems, but assuming nothing at all happens after you have set the programme then start with the "door interlock", this cannot be normally tested with a multimeter, its just a case of replacing with another one, depending on the machine these parts can be very cheap to buy, never try to bypass even just for testing purpose, permanent damage to the timer can be caused

Press "end of cycle" button for over 5 seconds. Then try to start from beginning according to your normal wash. If this does not work, plug off the wall, open up behind the machine, check to see if all connections are tightly secured. This is possible (loose) due to vibrations in the machine over time. Specially the connectors from the control board to the motor. Please dont forget to rate me....
