Question about Dell E151FP 15" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Dell 151fp is slow to get going, fine otherwise

5 1/2 year old Dell 151fp works fine once it gets going. The problem is that it takes 5-10 minutes to "warm up" after being turned on.Thescreen remains blank during this time. It sometimes seems to help if you click the mouse or press a key on the keyboard. I hooked up my new Dell 1707fp and it worked fine. I called Geek Squad and they said they've never heard of that problem, I should buy a new one. It also takes several minutes to get going if left on when the computer is turned off.

Converter only works properly after it has been left on for about 20 minutes

In my years as an Electronic Technician I have had two simular situtions happen to me. Both were in TV's but the results was the same, they had to 'warm up'. Then they played fine until they cooled off. I finally discovered that in the power supply I had a ceramic resistor that should have been about 2 ohm had changed to Mega ohm and was not letting power through fast enough to start quickly. Once it got the caps built up it worked fine. The other was also in the PS and it was a large cap that was just slow to take a charge. Don't know that either of these fit your situation but that is the only two times I have experienced a problem of that nature

Unit gets very hot within 5 minutes and slows graphics down to a crawl or crashes the machine.

I solved a really familiar problem 2 days before here at home.

The problem is, that your notebook gets really hot within minutes. As it gets to an exact temperature, the CPU first slos down, then shuts down, to prevent damage, and to cool down. If it's an "old" notebook (I mean at least 1,5 - 2 years old), then the thermal paste on the processor got dry, and it doesn't do its job anymore. You have to apply a new amount of thermal paste (BTW you really should do it at least once a year).

1. Turn the notebook upside down
2. Take out the screws from the biggest panel (must be next to the heat grille)
3. Take out the screws from the cooler of the CPU
4. There will be a lot of white stuff on the CPU, clean it VERY carefully (tissue with alcohol, but NOT brush)
5. Apply a little thermal paste on the CPU
6. Take the CPU cooler back, and take the screws back
7. Take the bottom panel bake, and take the screws back

Here is a tutorial of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3Izxh7J44s

The other solution is to buy a notebook cooler: http://www.notebookcooler.info/media/ante-notebook-cooler-s.jpg

Hope I could help.

Hello roby, hi, to find if the problem is the cable box or the TV, try using another TV. if the cable box performs normally, you have a problematic TV. Otherwise its the cable box.

My 5 year old computer is getting slower and slower, takes 5 - 10 minutes to boot up in the morning, is slow to open up attachments and move from application to application.

Most likely due to low available disk space on the hard drive. Items like system restore and the fact that windows does not report partially used clusters as Used (If any part of a file is written to a cluster, that cluster is dedicated to that file regardless of how much is not being used, even though windows reports it free)

So freeing up disk space is one option.

You can also use applications like Advanced System Care to tune up your system

Lennox furnace 17 yeanrs old. flame comes on and the shuts down sometimes right away some times in a few minutes. We have the furnace go down to 58 at night. It takes all day to get back to 67.

Sounds like a dirty flame sensor.
Also 9 degrees is a large swing to recover. Most specialist will advise no more than a 5 degree set back, otherwise recovery time eliminates any savings you may achieve.
