Oil is spraying out of dipstick tube. I found the dipstick sticking about 2-3 inches out of tube. If it is inserted properly (all the way), would something force it up and allow oil to spray out? (2007 Hyundai Tucson SUV; 4 cylinder)

SOURCE: oil dip stick

Had the same problem last year - the plastic handle broke off and the top of the remaining plastic was visible down the tube but was stuck solid. Finally used an easy-out to get it out. Drilled a small hole into the plastic and then threaded a thin easy-out bit into the hole and it held enough for me to pull the dipstick out. Stupid design, a plastic handle on a metal dipstick!

Here in Canada the Intrepid is badged as a Chrysler. Sounds a bit dodgey to me :-)

SOURCE: oil problem

Somehow that crankcase is being pressureized. You say the pcv is not blocked, but I would replace and check again. The next step is quite expensive and I would want to rule out that pcv for the 10 bucks that it might cost.

Oil pressure switch is bad. Consider a replacement fast before you loose your engine.

How do you check the transmission fluid level

you don`t say kind or model of car so this will be generic. with the car on a level surface running and warm, find the transmission dipstick tube, remove the dipstick wipe it off re-insert and pull out check the level at the end of the stick with it facing down so oil won`t run up the dipstick giving the wrong level. there should be markings on the end of the dipstick that will indicate from low oil to proper oil level. also smell the oil if it smells burnt have the transmission service done(change oil and filter). it should be a reddish colour not brown or dark in colour.

Oil capacity 4.3 safari ....so far 10 qts. does not even show on the dipstick ?

You have a problem. Do not start that engine until you figure out what has happened. The capacity is less than 5 quarts with an oil filter change and only 4 without. I suspect that you may be pouring the oil into the wrong area and have made a big error. Oil should show on the dip stick at about 2-3 quarts.

How do i put oil into the automatic gear box i can find the dip stick but no way of putting the oil in

Hi,

Good thing you know the dipstick is located!

Try to use a funnel that fits in the dipstick tube, insert the funnel in the hole of the tube and pour the ammount of fluid you needed to top up your transmission.

Hope that helps you a lot!

Thanks for using Fixya!

Where do i pour transmission fluid

Always check the transmission fluid with the engine hot (after driving) and while the car is idling and in park.

Pour the transmission fluid, using a funnel, into the tube where the transmission dipstick is. The dipstick handle is usually the RED one.

Do not overfill the transmission fluid, as this could cause it to come out into the engine compartment thru the filler/dipstick tube when it becomes hot and potentially catch on fire.

Good luck

How do I replace the oil dipstick tube?

The dipstick can be pulled out of the block with a pair of vicegrips and the new one driven down into the block. Before trying to pull the dipstick tube out make sure it is not held onto the block with a small bolt.

wipe the dipstick off well, check 2 or 3 times if there is compression problems it might blow some residue oil back up dipstick tube, [and dipstick out a little bit][rings] sure fire test, drain oil, change filter fill with new oil if you do not no proper amount try 4.5 litres and go from there.

How can I remove a lodged oil dip stick? Top part of grip has broken off. Someone tried to remove it but lodged it in further down.

Needle nose plyers.
If those wont reach in far enough - you might have to remove the dipstick tube..

Oil dip stick broke off about 1 inch in shaft

You have to remove the oil dipstick tube.  Most are just pushed into the engine block with a o ring seal.  With some effort you should be able to pull it directly out.  Have you tried a bent coat hanger with a barbed end?
The procedure is easy the acessability may be the hard part.

Transmission

It is on the left rear area under the hood, down low, between the motor and the steering column. The transmission dipstick should be yellow plastic and has a 1/2 inch square hole in the top. Insert a long handled 1/2 inch breaker bar into the fitting in the top of the dipstick, use a two-foot long 1 inch wooden dowel to push back the spring clip holding the dipstick in place, and pull out the transmission dipstick with the breaker bar. You will need a length of 1/2 inch tubing afixed to a funnel to add tranasission fluid. I highly recommend changing the transmission oil often to protect the transmission. Be sure to pump all the old fluid out and not just drain the pan. See Brickboard.
