Check the drum slides, they are bushings that make sure the dryer has thrust but not too much. If they wear out the drum has too much movement back and forth and clothes will get caught in between the drum and the dyer housing, and might not turn if its get caught at a funny angle inside the housing.

GE 5 Cycle Automatic Heavy Duty Extra Large loud noise

All ge dryers have a center bearing on the back side of the drum and drum glides on the frontside. The glides make a scrubbing sound when bad and the drum is hard to turn. The rear bearing does a squeak thang when the plastic bearing wears thin and begins to make metal to metal contact between drum mount and rear bulkhead mount. It is an easy fix but the drum gotta come out. here is my pictorial page that shows how with videos and repair pix:

My dryer is making a loud squeaking noise when it

All dryers have to have a way of allowing the tumbler (that's the thing you put the clothes in) to turn freely, not all of them are the same tho, some use bearings, some use slides, others use rollers. Over time these rollers will need to be oiled, the slides will get thin and start metal to metal contact causing a noise, The rear bearings will then start to make their way to china and cause the tumbler to rub into the heating element and OUCH! These things will cause the motor to prematurely DIE! Its best to examine the dryers, rollers, and slides when you first hear the noise, but who does?

Loud squeaking noise

it sounds like your roller bearings are bad you need to get the top open then take the front off loosen the belt take out the tumbler try to squirt oil on the shaft the rollers are on there should be two of them, put it back together and try it,if that doesn't work replace them.

UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS

You may have two problems:
1...The felt seal around the door is faulty, broken, or out of place. This will cause the problem of zippers, buttons, etc. to get caught between the door and the drum
2...Drum rollers, this causes squeaks, and thump type of noises.
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication and the felt seal between the door and drum maybe faulty.
If you have a front loading machine,
Remove the electrical box that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, and felt seal.
Check your felt seal at this time to see if you can reinstall it or you may have to replace it.
Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise and the problem of getting clothes caught in between the door and drum.

Loud Grinding noise in Dryer

I know this prob is old, but I had the very same prob with my dryer (very loud squeaking noise). The prob was that there was a screw stuck between the rotating part and the stationary part. Meaning - look inside the dryer (main area - where the clothes go) and rotate it by hand. You may hear and see something causing the friction. Gerard
