Hi Sir Another fix you could try is looking in your device manager and checking what keyboard device is registered if it says that you are using a ps2 then you need to uninstall the device and then close the device manger after which you should unplug your key board and restart your computer when you hear the bleep reconnect the keyboard into your USB port and see if this works if not you need to check if you have enough power to your keyboard from your USB port as some USB keyboards need power is your USB port 2.0 if not try to upgrade your USB to 2.0 from the usual 1.1 ports Hope this helps Paddy

Keyboard failure on dell dimension 2400

Your keyboard needs to be pluged into one of either a USB port, if it has a USB connection or a PS2 Port if it has a PS2 connection.

USB is the rectangular shaped port, while the PS2 is a round, usually purple coloured connector.

Try pluging it in and out, with USB connection type try another USB port at the rear of the chassis or on the front too.

It is possible that the keyboard is faulty, in other words it has come to the end of it's life. Meaning that you may need another keyboard.
Try this keyboard on another computer, a friends computer will do. You could even try a friends keyboard in this computer as another test.

Take care!

Have a Dell Dimension. rebooted cpu and says keyboard failure hit F1 or F12. Mouse works and keyboard works in bios mode, but will not boot to XP Pro desktop. Tryed 2 sets of keyboards and mice. What do...

First, I would try booting to Safe Mode and see if that gets you to Windows. If it does, then it's a driver issue that can be relatively easily fixed by "Uninstalling" the keyboard in the Control Panel/Device Manager, then rebooting and letting the system reinstall the driver.

If that doesn't do it, then it sounds like the (assuming you're using a PS2 keyboard) PS2 keyboard plug port may be compromised (ie., damaged). Try using a USB keyboard instead and see if that solves your issue (as trying to repair a PS2 keyboard port is not practical).

Hope that's helpful.

I have a blue screen and when I try to boot from cd my keyboard is not working on Dell dimension 3000. I can't type my password in. I have had 7 password failures.

Hello
If the keyboard is USB then try with PS/2 keyboard, the USB keyboard normally gives that kind of problem (blue screen and no typing)
Feel free to contact for more assistance, do rate the solution if helped
Good Luck

There must be a PS2 connector for a keyboard. Use this and enter in the bios and change the error reporting at keyboard missing to none.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop computer. I

more info would be beneficial in diagnosing exactly whats wrong.. but try to rule out a few obvious things first. try disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard and make sure it is properly seated in the usb/ps2 port. download spybot S&D and scan your computer to remove any keyloggers/trojans/malware that may be hogging your cpu and thus bogging down the Input from your keyboard.

Loose keyboard connection

You will have to either repair the connection with a soldering iron, replace it (which means finding a connector from another board and desoldering that one, then desoldering yours and installing the good one), or simply change to a USB keyboard.

By far the easiest thing to do is change to a USB keyboard. You could also use a simple USB to PS2 converter if you don't wish to change keyboards, the converter would simply allow you to plug your keyboard into a USB slot on your computer.

On booting up, computer can not load keyboard system.

One possible problem is that your PS2 keyboard port at the back of your PC is ruined. In time, those so called "outlets" become loose specially the ones with cables which usually got pulled or tangled and make the port strained and the contacts get loose.
If that is the case, you might need to replace the keyboard port, or just stick with your usb keyboard.
