- turns off shortly after turning on. sometimes the picture is very dim as it tries to turn on. removed cover and was lightly tapping on ckt board and it would stay on until i stopped tapping. i am a car electrician, so i have no idea what i am doing. is there a motor that could be locking up, or a relay that is sticking? please help, son loves the tv and it's just over a year old.- Adriang132Best Solution

in your TV problem many kind of parts are suspect! or to be suspected! ok #1 the 503 crystal is not working #2 Defective vertical output. some of TV Unit the power supply of a jungle IC is coming out from vertical output (IC). #3 you have defective starting capacitor thats is 150uf 180v near at the flyback #4 you have change value resistor like 1meg ohms, or 470k ohms. #5 or else you have defective JUNGLE IC.

This might be indicating an overvoltage or an over current condition you will need to take this to one of the shops on FixYa or find a shop in your neighborhood to thak it to.
1) A schematic (to know where you are in the circuit)
2) Digital Multimeter (to check voltage, and resistance)
3) Transistor Checker (to test the FETs, and Bipolar transistors that might be causing your problem)
4) Universal Video Analyzer (For Horizontal drive insertion and ring testing of the IHVT)
5) Isolation Transformer (to isolate the ground of the device being tested )
6) HV probe (to see if you have the proper anode voltage on your picture tube (about 10K for small Tvs 25-40K for larger TVs)
Now my question is do you have all or at least part of these pieces of equipment? If your answer is no, then taking it to a shop is a logical solution. Does it help you? I think so, getting hit with 10K - 40K volts because you did not know it was there and the person preventing that from happening, well I call that helpful.
