We bought a used Dynex 26" flat screen and it worked fine for a while but now about half the time when you go to turn it on there's sound but the screen is grey with pastel colored vertical lines. Tapping it several times does bring the picture back but now even after it's been playing fine the picture freezes and the color slowly drains to the grey screen again. Are we just out of luck or is there something that can be done for it? Thanks...

I would check the capacitors or a cold solder connection.
I have fixed many with a good resolder.

SOURCE: video freezes up to vertical lines or blue or white screen

Clean the CPU cooler and everithing else from the dust!

Turn off, open the case, use air spray to clean.
(I use vacom cleaner and a small brush, but you risk your component if you do the same! I'm professional.)

SOURCE: Computer Freeze

I would suggest maybe backing up your data and reformatting it. Often that's the best solutiong

SOURCE: I am using DELL Inspiron

attach an external monitor to be certain the video card is ok,
next
Re-seat the video card cable to the lcd screen,
dell site explains how to remove top and keyboard.

your real issue may be the cable itself or the lcd screen.

SOURCE: Turned computer on one day

Try another monitor, then change the graphics settings to lowest possible, then reboot the PC, and see if your screen works again, if it does, check the documentation for your monitor and make sure you do NOT exceed the maximum color depth / resolution for your monitor, also, make sure not to exceed the refresh rate.

if this does not fix your monitor issue, check the cables for missing pins, freyed wireing / broken insulation.

Again, if this doesn't fix your problem, try the monitor on another PC, and if still a no-go, you may have a damaged inverter board in your monitor, or other componant / wire based issue.

If another monitor doesn't work on your computer, try swapping the graphics card out, it could very well be a dieing graphics card.

SOURCE: screen has a blue tint - no red

sounds to me either your video card is bad if your computer came with one or if your video card is integrated into the computer then the motherboard is bad.

Basically if you have a video card, it will plug into either a PCI or AGP slot and alot of times they overheat or the fans fail on them. If thats the case you would replace the video card. If you have integrated video on your motheroard meaning you don't have a card and you plug the monitor into the motherboard video connector then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

I have a 26 inch Dynex LCD HDTV that the picture fails to work most of the time. On occasion it will work fine while the rest of the time there is sound with no picture only a black screen. I assume this...

Test: You might see a pic by shining a bright light against the screen. (Halogen can burn a spot if too close for too long like 15 seconds). If so, you probably have an inverter, backlight tube or coil/driver board problem. Some of these units have a bad ground on the tube driver coil board which can be shimmed and/or tightened. Sometimes a simple car light tester (continuity tester with a 12v bulb) from casing/mount ground to any of the - side of the backlight driver coils will light the screen and reveal if and which tube is non functional. I leave one dome light running in such ground position one of my TVs at all times for regulation and night dimming.

Smell coming from TV

dear,

yes it can be due to new set. the components are new and have just started working initially that's why they cause smell. if your set is working fine then leave it like that and use it. if it remains after few days or increasing than before then u have to notice it in details otherwise no problem

Power button is green - no blinks / no picture / no sound

Unplug it from the wall, wait 2 minutes and plug it back in. if problem still exists, its probably the main pcb.
