Question about Dell UltraSharp 2001FP 20.1" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Dell 2001FP always in sleep mode.

When I turn on the monitor i see the UltrSharp logo for a very short time like half a sec, after that a black screen, the problem appeared gradually, first the monitor was having troubles waking up from stand-by mode, after a couple of days it went totally in stand by mode even i cant see the "no signal" warning when not connected to anyting. the power is ok (tried it on a different PC) and the rest of cables are good, tried also the RGB/SVideo and the sane issue. Any idea?

I have two dell 2001FP monitors hooked up to 5200 video card, one analog port, one digital port - everthing working fine until this morning.

The monitor on the dvi port does not display anythng now, and the computer does not recognize the monitor is there any longer.

The monitor itself reports it's in power save mode and to move mouse or press keyboard to wake it up.

Can't figure out how to wake it up!

Sounds like you have a video driver issue. See if you can boot from your "Dell Resource" CD or any other bootable CD disk. Power on the computer and tap the F12 key to get to the "Boot Selection Menu". Insert the "Resource CD" into the CD-ROM drive. Select "Boot from CD/DVD drive" from the selection menu. If the computer boots from the CD drive then you Operating System Software is the problem.

Most likely, this is failing "inverter."
The backlight of the monitor (that makes the image visible) is controller by a special chunk of electronics called an inverter. They tend to fail over time. The symptom is that the backlight either never comes on, flickers, or shuts off after a short period of time.
It is a moderately advanced repair job to change out the inverter, but you can usually get the part on eBay. Search for the exact monitor model number and "inverter".
The 2001FP has six lamps and the inverter is fairly expensive. You might be better off putting that money towards a newer monitor.

It sounds like the power management drivers with your OS are responsible. Maybe you should disable the power management on your computer, or possibly upgrade them and/or the BIOS.

The light is always yellow and the monitor wont turn on

Yellow led light means the monitor is in 'sleep' mode. There is no signal being sent from whatever it's connected to. If it's a computer, try checking the connection(s), make sure it's not come lose inside the computer, try if you can the computer on a different monitor or the monitor on a different computer.

From your description your backlight is going out. The fluorescent light when it begins to burn out tries to draw too much power. Your inverter is sensing this 'too much' power draw and shuts down power to the back light. Replacing the backlight is the most technically difficult repair of an LCD, and most repair shops don't even offer this service. I recommend that you sell your LCD 'AS IS' on eBay or a similar website. The Power board and the Control Board are both usable parts that can be easily salvaged from most Dell Ultrasharp monitors.
