2001 Accord EX - Front passenger side carpet is soaking wet

I have a 2001 Honda Accord Ex 5-Speed. The front passenger side carpet has gotten soaked a couple of times over the last week. I have not driven it lately, so I am not sure if it was raining the first time it happened. I discovered the problem on a sunny day; however, the next time I discovered it, it had been raining the night before.

Could this be an air conditioning issue? I use the AC with the heat on in the winter to de-fog the windshield.

Can anyone help with how to fix this problem? Is it common?

Thanks

Thank you for the quick response. I will try that. I did not notice any evidence of water anywhere but on the carpet. In fact, the rubber floor mat I placed on top of the Honda floor mat was dry. It was only the carpet and floor mat underneath that were wet. It almost seems like the water is coming from below the carpet.

In my previous Hinda Accord, I had a similar problem and I recall the issue being related to the AC unit. I wonder if this could be the same thing? Could it be a hole in the floor or in the firewall?

    Thanks again.

Thanks for all the help. I no longer believe it is the A/C unit as I was able to determine that the passenger carpet only gets wet when it rains. So there is a leak somewhere. It is just a matter offinding out where. The door frame? The windshield? The funny thing is that there is not sign of wetness anywhere except for underneath the carpet. The rubber floor mat on top of the carpet is bone dry.

    Thanks

    possible.

if just the passenger side is wet, then you should look at the AC unit, (which I don't think so, since last time the AC wasn't on), firewall around the battery, the floorboard, and the door hinge weather stripe.

but mostly the weatherstrip. water not usually splash into the engine compartment when it is not moving. but it will pick up water that bounce up from the ground.

on a sunny day first check the outside of the car around all of the weather strip. see if there is a rust spot or ping hole. then have a helper using a garden hose spray water on the car, while you are inside. check very carefully around the door, windows, trunk, and windshield.

problem of this kind is very difficult to find, specially if it leaking form some place you can't see.

this is the best I can tell you.

    good luck

The drain on the a/c evaporator gets clogged, you have to raise the car on a lift, or get under the car, on the right side of the car under the fire wall you will see a black rubber hose ( about a 1/2 inch in size) pointing down, you will need to blow compressed air in the hose to clear the blockage.

Sounds like maybe the ECU had taken in some water. Is your ECM located behind the engine on the firewall? There are two large fuses located on the passenger side wheel well in the engine bay. They are two large (2" plastic covers) over them.

Floor board carpet is wet

the heater will not cause this. check under body for any damaged sheet metal. good test is go to carwash, give it a good soaking and see where it is leaking from.

Interior Carpet Getting Wet

It sounds like a plugged drain line from the air conditioner. Most cars now run in the a/c mode whenever u turn on the climate control (even when heat is on). The passenger side front is where it would be wet, and the carpet and carpet pad act like a sponge and will soak up the water. Let me know how u make out.
