Hello If you don't manage to sort the problem out, please provide me with some details and I will try troubleshooting it. Please look at the charger unit and tell me if it's led flashes or modify it's lighting intensity when you plug the charger to the laptop.

The problem is with an internal circuit inside the laptop. Because of a power circuit failure the overall power consumtion of the laptop has exceeded the maximum power that can be given by the charger unit. The led's flashing indicates that and furthermore you shoudn't try to power up the laptop anymore. The fault has resulted in either a shortcircuit on the main power convertor inside the laptop or any of it's surrounding components. This is a serios problem and may require at least changing the burn out components (worst case scenario - changing the entire motherboard).

A laptop has numerous protection systems that should prevent the power failure to spread to more sensitive components. At this moment your laptop can't be turned on because that specific circuit was controlling the power requirements for all components inside your laptop. If it has failed, more likely the battery charging circuit has also been damaged since it's linked to the first one. Also, if the charging/battery circuit has been tampered with it can also cause the damage to the main converter. This can happen out from nowhere with no aparent reasons.

The best think to do would be to try your chances with Ebay. A repair can prove to be verry expensive, but you could try to search for a service center wich offers free estimate or a cheap one in order to tell you what will be the price for having this fixed.

The squealing sound indicates a fault, as does the flashing lights. It's very hard to narrow the problem down. Since you have recently received this laptop, it would be best to return the laptop under warranty for repair or replacement. It is more than likely fried, my friend. Unlucky.

If the guy sold it as a working second hand unit and you the sale was made with PayPal buyer protection, you may be able to file a claim with PayPal, if that's the method of payment you chose.

Good luck on getting it sorted, mate.

On an off chance, take the power out and remove the battery, then plug the power back in and report your results.

You should be able to find out your remaining warranty on Asus' website by quoting the serial number, if not, phone them up and they'll soon tell you.

Try 2 phone calls, first ask if you'll need proof of purchase. If they do, call back and just state your serial number, pass your details on and see if they ASK for proof of purchase.

You only really get them on the reverse of a laptop, or on the original box it came in.

Well, what's your definition of "tampered"?

  • Ricky Burgin
    Ricky Burgin Sep 08, 2007

Bogdan is right - since this is your first laptop, you're probably going to know sh*t all about dismantling a laptop, so check around some local places for quotes on a repair - but it's very likely to be rather expensive due to what extent the damage could have been caused.

If you don't mind me asking, what price did you pay for the laptop?

And it may well have been tampered with - first step is to persue a claim with PayPal, then get quotes on a repair if PayPal fail to return your money to you.

You may be able to claim on postage insurance, definitly worth a try. But try your warranty out first. I think you're being a bit paranoid about the serial tag on the laptop at the moment, just phone Asus and see where you get.

Worth a shot, dude. Don't give up on it.

Asus laptop wont turn on

Not saying you are stupid but are you sure the batter is charged plug it in and try again if that does not work if when you power in on and the power lite lights up there might be on one of the F keys at the top of the keyboard it might say,CLD,LED or something like that try the clor that is push the button like FN or the key that is the same color as that and push the one that has the FN or the colored on and then hit the, CLD,LED and see if that works if not you might have to take it to someone.

Tricky one this without looking at it - You may very well have a faulty lead, transformer/voltage regulator,power/plug or switch. Would need to do hardware tests to determine the fault. Regards, Freddie

Please update your post with any Model Numbers that you can retrieve, especially the subwoofer. Off hand, and with the limited amount of information that you have provided, I would GUESS that your subwoofer is simply overheating, and is being shutdown internally, hence protecting the fuse because no short is detected. If you haven't moved and or vaccuumed/cleaned around or near your system regularly, dust, pollution, pollen...you name it, builds up and can easily prevent electronics from breeathing/venting properly.
