Im pretty sure there is a usb boot option on mine - try going on the dell website and installing the latest BIOS firmware, you may notice this option become available as well as being up to date!

I'm trying to start Microsoft Windows Server2003 from USB Hard Drive on Dell PowerEdge 2600 Server.

Dell provides lifetime tech support for all PE servers. Call them at 800-945-3355 and give them the service tag or express service code from the server. If it can be done, they will tell you how.
Good luck!

How to go usb boot in poweredge2600

The PE26x0 series was many server-line generations ago, thus booting from USB devices was not available at that time, thus it will not work today either. This includes USB based bootable devices (i.e. bootable USB key, DVD ROM..etc).

Even with the latest BIOS A21 for the PE2650, there is no support for bootable USB devices.

Unable to boot to anything external.

Save yourself some trouble. Pull a CD/DVD drive out of another computer or just buy one. They are very cheap. Connect the CD/DVD drive to the server and install the OS as usual.

If you are lucky WS2008 will already have a compatible SCSI/RAID driver. Otherwise, you will need to press F6 and install the driver from the floppy.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

DELL Poweredge 2600

The Dell original standard CD drive shipped with the PE2600 is incapable of 'understanding' the latest generation of bootable CD's (no matter what the BIOS says).

As far as I can tell, it's not fixable in the firmware ..

However you can swap it out for a more modern drive - such as the TS-L462C (which is a plug in replacement combined DVD reader / CD reader/writer - and Dell post the required drivers on their PE 2600 web pages, so I assume it must be a 'supported' solution)

I want to format scsi drives and configure raid0

You can either do this in the BIOS or (easier) just run a Linux installer (such as Ubuntu) and it will offer to do it for you when it sees Windows-formatted partitions.

PowerEdge 2600 does not boot up ?

you need to set the boot device order. Usually F12.
or you can go to bios with F2 or F10.

your cd-rom is wrong you need the Instalation and Server Management CD. I think it's possible to download this cd at their site.

good luck
