Dryer not working properly-comes on then goes off and won't start

The Kenmore 80 electric dryer starts when you push the button but after a few minutes cuts off and won't start again for a day or two. I checked the vent. I also checked the wiring and it is intact. The dryer might be from 1986. Could it be the thermostat or is it something else that can be fixed by me or by someone who knows what they're doing or do I need to get a new dryer.

You can check the high temp thermostat by removing the back panel,it is located on the heater box, remove both wires, put your meter on omns and if you don't get a reading it's bad,if it checks good then the motor is bad,it is overheating and cutting off,let me know what you find-mike

Dryer stops but the timer continues on

Fixed! The "push to start" button was stuck. Must have been some dust. I pushed the knob a few times and that's all it took. Works fine now.

Dryer will not start upon pushing the start button.

the motor is more than likely bad but just to be safe check the blower wheel and make sure there is not anything in it then remove the belt and try to turn motor if the motor feels real tight then you need to replace the motor

Kenmore 80 series electric dryer wont start

Push the button manually and see if the light goes off . If it does , then the problem is the thermal fuse (a white slim piece of plastic with 2 wires connected to it ) located on the blower housing beneath the drum .

Knemore 80 series dryer won't start every time

Go to www.repairclinic.com and enter your model number and it will show you all your parts, but I suggest you change your thermostats and basically have the dryer cleaned out of possible lint build up on the interior
