Gas Furnace is not heating anymore.

We have a gas furnace that is less than 8 years old (Payne Model PG8UAA). Last night it stopped blowing heat. When you move the theromstat past the actual temperature, it will not blow out through the vents. While standing by the furnace, it actually comes on, but doesn't blow out through the vents. I can hear it clicking like it's trying to fire up, but nothing happens. If I turn on the fan at the thermostat, it blows out cool air. The furnace next to it for downstairs, does the click noise and then you see fire ignite and the heat comes out. The one that does not work is blowing, but when it clicks it doesn't ignite and you don't see any fire.

The fan you hear come on at a call for heat is most likely just the inducer motor. the click you hear is probably the relay for the hot surface ignitor which should glow red, then in turn ignite the main burners. your going to have to determine if the ignitor is coming on. if it isnt the ignitor is bad and will need to be replaced. if it comes on and than shuts off after a few seconds the ifc board is probably at fault

Our Furnace is out, upon further inspection saw the light blinking 3 times indicating the Combustion Air Switch Failed to Close.

Refer to page 8 of instructions that came with unit. You will need to call for repair, tinker with it and there may be not very pleasant experiences.

Did you try resetting the electricity to unit, you may have to try resetting a few times to allow gas to purge air from lines , especially if it ran out during operation.

What size air filter do I need for a Day and Night 80 plus High Efficiency gas furnace... probably purchased in early 2000 maybe 2004

Measure filter size at point of filter brackets. Should be 1 inch thick. 16 x 25 is common. The accordion or pleated filters are good for cooling not for heat. I call them furnace killers. Much less air flow. Heat exchangers over heat and fail prematurely.

You probably have it running a program. Try using it simply on heat mode. Then set temperature and press hold on thermostat. The word hold should show up on the screen.

I have a Rheem Gas/Electric AC unit that provides both Air and Heat. Yesterday the heat stopped working... it blows out cold air. We've had some cold temperatures lately (low 20's) but this isn't unusual...

Heat pumps provide good heat until the tempurature drops below 35-40 degrees. After that there isn't much heat to extract from the outside air and then either the gas furnace kicks in or the electric heat strip does the job of heating the air. if you have heat strips, I would check your breakers in your panel and sometimes there are a couple of breakers right on the air handler or furnace. The ones that will be for your heat strip are 220v and will be twice as wide as your normal 110v breakers . Please don't trust a visual inspection as they can look like they are in the "on" position but are indeed tripped. Turn them all they way off and then back on. If the beakers check out you may have an open cicuit in the heat strips themselves and you will need to have a qualified HVAC tech look at your furnace to repair it.

If your furnace is a "duel fuel" and uses natural or LP gas for back up heat then your ten year old rheem probably needs a good maintenance by a qualified service tech. There is a flame sensor to clean, ignitor to check (replaces the old school pilots), burners to clean flue connections to check and much more. ALL manufacturers of any heating apliance recommend yearly maintenance. Most companies offer something for around 100 bucks. I hope this helps.

(HVAC) Furnace Not Igniting Quickly

Make sure a back draft in the flue is not happening. Wind can blow it out until the flue heats up. The flame sensor may not be close enough to the burner flame. It may be weak and need to be replaced or if its an optical one it may be dirty and not see the flame very well. Its not wasting much gas but it puts extra wear and tear on the gas controls, is noisy, and, as you said, blows cold drafty air. A gas control system that has issues of any kind is not real safe. It needs to get fixed.

150000 1974 national gas forced air furnance does the fan come on the same time the gas comes on. ...

not familiar with that particular model but on virtually every type and style of furnace i have worked on in the last 21 years. the fan is delayed. usually the burner lights then 3 to 5 minutes later after the heat exchanger has gotten nice and hot the fan comes on and blows nice and hot air. on old furnaces there was and is a switch usually on the upper right side of the furnace bulkhead that has a spring like device that heats up and rotates till it makes a set of contacts that turn the fan on. if it gets to hot the set of contacts breaks the power to the gas valve and shuts down the burner. as the furnace cools down on shut off there is a third set of contacts that open to turn off the fan so you don't get a draft. sometimes the stat can be wired up wrong, and it will bring the fan on right away ,and air will be cool and drafty till furnace catches up.
